JON BON JOVI with ELTON JOHN Dyin' Ain't Much Of A Livin' (1991 French-only wide-centred injection label 7" vinyl single including Santa Fe, great picture sleeve. The sleeve has only a little light edgewear/ringwear and the vinyl has just a few minor surface scuffs. This copy is in better than excellent condition)

THE WHO I'm A Boy (Extremely rare 1967 Japanese only 12-track stereo vinyl compilation LP, complete with lyric insert, unique pinched spine glossy scalloped flipback picture sleeve with Japanese sleeve notes on the reverse. The sleeve is in amazing condition with only the slightest hint of ringwear if held to the light, the insert too shows only very light wear. The vinyl remains in near MINT condition, a very nice copy indeed of this incredibly hard to find LP in incredible condition! SLPM-1354)

ABBA Slipping Through My Fingers (Legendary 1980 first press Japanese promotional 11-track PICTURE DISC LP issued by the Coca-Cola company. This rare first issue includes the forty two seconds of uncensored dialogue which was removed from the later issue. The unique custom picture sleeve has only a few minor storage marks. The fold out Japanese lyric and info insert has some slight discolouration but is intact and included making for a complete set PD-1005)

He captured unique and breathtaking images of the band at work and at play whilst travelling with them between 1965-67. This superb edition was limited to 1,750 signed copies printed on 200g matt art paper & bound in black quarter leather with silk-screened slipcase. An original 3-frame contact strip direct from the negative is pasted into each copy. This hand numbered edition has been signed by the author in silver marker pen. Wednesday's Top Three Including The Who, Morrissey, Sex Pistols

THE WHO Sell Out (Extremely rare 1968 Japanese 14-track stereo vinyl LP, unique pinched spine fully laminated scalloped flipback picture sleeve with Japanese sleeve notes on the reverse and lyric insert. Being mostly white, the sleeve does show a degree of age yellowing at the edges but nothing too extreme. Shelfwear is minimal with only one light crease to the bottom left-hand corner and the spine is still clearly readable. The vinyl too remains in NEAR MINT condition, showing only a reasonable amount of play & containing just the two grooves that it was born with and no other obvious defects. A very nice copy of this incredibly hard to find LP in superb condition! SLPM-1394)

MORRISSEY Glamorous Glue - Promo (Super rare 2011 UK promotional 7" single, die cut company sleeve. Issued to promote the 2011 release of the Glamorous Glue remaster, and one of only 100 copies ever made, it comes in a special Stateside labelfacsimile card sleeve with a wonderful retro design on the rear. The B-side, The Loneliest Man In The World, is an old Vince Eager track chosen by Morrissey himself. This superb Morrissey collectable is in mint condition and is un-played SS2242)

SEX PISTOLS Anarchy In The UK Tour (Super rare original UK concert poster for their show at The 400 Ballroom in Torquay on Wednesday 22nd December 1976, part of the ill-fated Anarchy tour. Only three of the shows actually took place; this one was cancelled as a result of the bands profanity-laden television appearance. This would have been for the last show on the tour and due to it being canceled the group instead secured a second date at the Woods Centre in Plymouth. The poster measures 19½" x 29" in size and has the classic band name logo and tour name across the top, along with the supporting acts, including The Clash, Damned and Johnny & The Heartbreakers. This copy was acquired from the personal collection of Martin Goldsmith, responsible for licensing & merchandising for some of the biggest organisations and for many of the worlds iconic events)

I am writing this from my sick bed. All things being equal, this ought to be a luxury divan in a private room in the Betty Ford clinic with a view of the Pacific and two leggy nurses in constant attendance to mop my brow... and any other part of me that feels feverish. The reality is somewhat different: a green sofa from Ikea, in a suburb of North London with a view of the Edmonton waste disposal plant and its spewing chimney. The radio is full of phone-ins, the TV is full of people sliding downhill fast which I can identify with a little too much at present. The record deck is in the front room which might as well be in LA for as much as I feel inclined to get there. I'm suffering from a virus, diagnosed as man flu by Dr Wife, who is expert in these matters. From time to time I slip into a delirious sleep in which all the records on my wants list dance in front of me and then disappear just as I am about to catch them, a bit like in real life when I bid for them on eBay.

Luckily thanks to the power of paracetamol and the distraction of youtube, I am able to function and take my mind off it. What I definitely should not do is spend all day hunting for vinyl on t'internet in the absence of actually being able to stand up and stuff like that. The last thing a sick bloke should do is drive his bank manager to phone him up and ask him just who Graal Records are and how come I am exporting half the UK Economy to a record dealer in France. It's quite peculiar when you think of it: some struggling bloke somehow raises the wherewithal to make a one-off record in a ghetto studio in Jamaica. It doesn't so much bomb as barely even exist. Forty years later it turns up in France and is snapped up by a fat bloke sitting on a couch in London who is delighted to own it. The bloke in Jamaica didn't make it to cheer me up or for export to Europe: all art takes on a life of its own once you create it.

Earlier in the week we'd been planning the next edition of the mag, to include a story about a legendary venue, some remarkable Abba rarities that I've been gobsmacked by, and an interview with the amazing Smokey Robinson. Mind you, if the Betty Ford nurses turn up, the mag may be a little late coming out.

David Bowie's Brit Awards 2014 triumph over pop's promising youth was well deserved – he still exemplifies everything that can make pop music great, says Neil McCormick

 

The Old White Duke still has it. David Bowie won best British Male at the Brit Awards 2014, a triumph that somehow both celebrated and mocked the contemporary hit parade. Bowie exemplifies everything that can make pop music great: artistic daring, intellectual brilliance, sexual allure, emotional punch, impeccable coolness and crowd-pleasing appeal, wrapped up in the shape-shifting form of an outsider genius. Yet he’s also a 67-year-old semi-retiree who has stage-managed his chart-topping comeback with The Next Day, his first album in 10 years, without once performing or even appearing in public.

Bowie last won the British Male award half a lifetime ago, in 1984, when this music industry ceremony was still called the BPI Awards. Thirty years on, he became the oldest ever winner of a Brit. All the young dudes risk being overshadowed by a man who has been making cutting edge pop since before most of them were born.

ELVIS PRESLEY Fun In Acapulco Mid 60s UK issue of the 1963  12-track mono soundtrack LP on the 'red spot' RCA label, fully  laminated flipback picture sleeve. The sleeve has two corner creases in  the upper half with some lifting to the laminate top left, however the  spine is perfectly legible and the vinyl looks barely played. The sleeve on this copy  has some minor wear mostly on the edges but has no splits or rips  and, aside from a few very light paper scuffs, the vinyl is in excellent  condition. A very respectable copy of this now very hard to find 90s  pressing and arguably Plant's best solo output

The rear of the sleeve states manufactured and printed in England with no reference to 'Howards Printers', complete with original textured lyric inner, again indicating first press WWA005...

THE WHO Tommy - Original Soundtrack Recording

Original 1975 Japanese 31-track 'Sal74' Quadraphonic Sound Issue double LP, gatefold picture sleeve with lyric booklet and 'Roadshow' obi-strip. The sleeve on this copy has wear mostly to the edges, the obi has been tape repaired on the back but is otherwise complete whilst the vinyl is in 'near as new' condition with very little signs of play MP9492/3

DORIA ROBERTS Blackeyed Susan 2011 US 11-track CD box set, a  tribute to her friend and mentor the late Civil Rights era folk artist  Odetta Holmes. Funded by a Kickstarter campaign [funded by fans of  the artist], Doria went on a 45 day campaign and raised funds for this,  her seventh project. Kylie surprises at intimate London gig

Last night, on the eve of both Valentine's Day and London Fashion Week, Kylie Minogue surprised revellers at the London pub, The Old Blue Last. Guests were enjoying a Kylie themed evening, with Kylie Karaoke and Bingo when Kylie herself arrived at the venue and performed a three track set to the shocked crowd. 

Kylie played two new tracks from the forthcoming album, 'Kiss Me Once'. Kylie played the album track, 'Les Sex' and new single, 'Into The Blue', out from M•A•C Cosmetics. 

Kylie will be flying to Paris, the city of love, on Valentine's Day to celebrate at Colette's French Kiss party where she will also perform a very special set. 

Kylie said: 'My album is called Kiss Me Once and I hope Valentine's Day brings all my fans a kiss...or two!! The Old Blue Last was the perfect place to debut my new single 'Into The Blue!'

The new single, 'Into The Blue' is out on March 9th and the highly anticipated new album, 'Kiss Me Once' follows a week later on March 17th.

It means we politely turn away thousands, yes I mean thousands, of records every month that simply don't quite make any grade in our picky opinion. JETHRO TULL The Jethro Tull Story Featuring Ian Anderson  Rare 1977 Canadian only triple LP Radio Show, recorded in  Toronto and featuring Ian Anderson telling the story of the  band along with songs from throughout their history, plain  gatefoldsleeve with letter from Capitol of Canada to Chrysalis  in Los Angeles attached inside. The plain sleeve shows a  degree of age yellowing and wear but this is easily replaced,  so we have included an alternative plain gatefold, should you  wish to use it. The vinyl remains in excellent condition with  little sign of play. A nice copy of this very hard to find  Canadian Radio Show! SPRO7
