Saturday's Top Three Including The Beatles, Nirvana, Pink Floyd

 THE BEATLES The Beatles Christmas Album (Super-rare original 1970 US Apple label fan-club only 7-track LP featuring all the tracks from the Christmas flexi discs collated onto one album. This genuine pressing has hand scratched matices SBC-/-100A & SBC-/-100B, with the correct 'sf' & 'rifle' --<| symbol, along with the 'Bell Sound' script logo. There was just one original pressing manufactured at Capitol's Winchester, Virginia factory, housed in a unique pasted picture sleeve whichretains its original shrink. This copy was sealed when we bought it and has only been opened along the right hand edge to confirm it is a 100% authentic pressing. The record has never been played. Awesome!)

NIRVANA Local Anaesthetic (Rare 1971 Japanese 'swirl' label stereo vinyl LP, complete with Japanese/lyric insert, housed in an entrancing Keef designed gatefold picture sleeve. This was the fourth album to be issued under the Nirvana name andthe first post-Island outing. Heavily jazz-influenced, this release was essentially the work of a solo Patrick Campbell-Lyons. The heavyweight sleeve on this copy shows little in the way of shelfwear with just a little light scuffing at the corners &the vinyl is flawless with little sign of play at all - A wonderful copy! PINK FLOYD Pink Floyd - 20 Years 1967-1987 (Extremely rare 1987 Greek only limited edition FIVE LP box set, including More, Atom Heart Mother, The Dark Side Of The Moon, Wish You Were Here and Animals, with a fold out insert detailing the Floyd's history from 1967 in Hellenic script, all housed in a unique glossy white clamshell box. The sleeves all carry the relevant local catalogue number on the reverse and are with lyric inners on Animals and Wish You Were Here. The box shows minimal shelfwear & the contents remain near 'as new' - A superb copy!)

Friday's Top Three Including Liverpool FC, Bob Dylan, Lou Reed

 LIVERPOOL FC The Kop Choir (1972 UK LP featuring recordings of The Kop terraces during matches against Chelsea and Bayern Munich, issued exclusively in conjunction with Watney's Brewers for the Watney's Cup sponsored competition, superb internal pocket gatefold picture sleeve with the classic 1972 team inside & Tommy Smith picture on reverse. There is a nice space underneath the team photograph for Autographs, which is where this LP REALLY begins to get interesting! WSR965) 

BOB DYLAN Dylan (2007 UK limited edition triple CD box set, featuring a total of fifty one tracks from one of the few living legends still working in the field of music today, an original talent and songwriter with the voice of a generation. The CDs chronicle five decades of groundbreaking studio recordings and serve as both a comprehensive introduction for new fans and an expansive overview for long-time devotees. Each disc comes in its own mini LP-style card picture sleeve with die cut inner, complete with an extensive forty page booklet and ten 3½" x 4½" postcard prints, all housed in a magnetic clasp deluxe red felt lined cloth covered title box with tracklisting sticker on the reverse. This unique copy has had the front of the booklet clearlyAUTOGRAPHED by Bob 'To Susan, Best Wishes, Bob Dylan 2008' and, nicest of all, he's written the lyrics from the Chorus of 'Like A Rolling Stone' on the back in a little drawn cloud, which he has also AUTOGRAPHED & dated Oct 19 2008. A wonderful & unique thing of great beauty!)

It is 30 years since the first Now That's What I Call Music was released. But what happened to the artists who featured in the first instalment?

It's 1983: Margaret Thatcher is re-elected as Prime Minister, Aberdeen beat Real Madrid to win the Cup Winners' Cup and seatbelts become mandatory in the UK.

But more significant than all of that is the launch of a global phenomenon - one which would weave itself into the very fabric of popular culture for the next three decades.

On November 28, 1983, the first Now That's What I Call Music is released.

Since then, a further 85 installments of the hit-collecting, chart-raiding compilation have been offered up to a perpetually loyal audience.

But what happened to those pioneering superstars who were lucky enough to feature on the first edition? A look through the tracklist reveals more drama than an EastEnders Christmas special.

Thursday's Top Three Including Iron Maiden, AC / DC, Kiss.

 IRON MAIDEN The First  Ten Years 1980-1990 (Rare 1990 UK limited edition box set, comprising the TEN double pack 12"s, a total of 63 tracks. Released between 24th February and 28th April 1990, in commemoration of the band's ten yearrecording anniversary, each double 12" contains two singles, complete with original B-sides and artwork, as well as an edition of 'Listen with Nicko'. This wonderous collection is housed in a 12¾" x 12¾" x 3" mail-order only card picture box,whichwas only available by sending the ten vouchers from the singles. 

AC/DC Stiff Upper Lip (Official 2000 German in-house Platinum award, issued to acknowledge sales in excess of 300,000 in Germany of the album on CD, which reached No. 1 on the Media Control Charts, presented to Uschi Reckmeier, the Press Promotion Manager at EastWest. This award measures 23" square & features a copy of the CD mounted along with the artist logo, album title & album artwork engraved in metal with silver finish & black wooden frame. Very cool!)

KISS The Originals I & II (Hard to find 1977-78 Japanese 2 x 3-LP vinyl set, featuring 59-tracks in total, repackaging the albums Kiss, Hotter Than Hell, Dressed To Kill, Destroyer, Rock & Roll Over & Love Gun, with both parts housed in their respective gatefold sleeves with unique designs plus artwork inners, lyric inserts, photo booklets, a sheet of six fact filecards, a Kiss Army sticker, four masks... everything except the obi-strips.

Metallica are arguably one of, if not the, biggest Metal bands in the world. They have consistently had a die hard fan base spanning 3 decades. Next year they have been confirmed to invade Europe while taking a break from the studio where they are putting the finishing touches to 2009's Death Magnetic.

We recently picked up a colleciton with some fantastic Autographed Singles some, including a FULLY AUTOGRAPHED Japanese issue of One!

METALLICA One - Super rare FULLY AUTOGRAPHED1989 Japanese CBS Sony orange label promotional-only large centred 7" featuring the Short Version, also including Breadfan, complete with the unique custom insert printed with tour dates on thefront and lyrics on the reverse. The insert and sleeve are both in excellent condition, but what makes this copy even more collectable is the fact it has been signed by James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett & Jason Newsted across the front in a silver or black pen, these were obtained circa 1999 as Lars has also added the year to his signature and Jason left the band in 2001

 

                                                                                                                                                     

 

 

 

 

 

METALLICA One - Rare AUTOGRAPHED 1988 UK promotional-only 7", featuring the Radio Edit and Album Version, custom printed blue tinted picture sleeve. The sleeve has only a few signs of storage wear whilst the vinyl is in superb condition.This copy has been boldly signed by James Hetfield in black and Jason Newsted in blue by their respective image on the front of the sleeve. METALLICA Master Of Puppets - Ultra Rare AUTOGRAPHED 1986 French-only vinyl 7" single on the New Electric Way label, also including Welcome Home 'Sanitarium', original picture sleeve featuring the superb album artwork on the front and agreat group picture on the reverse. The sleeve has only a little light edgewear, but is otherwise superb whilst the vinyl is in beautiful 'near as new' condition. METALLICA Harvester Of Sorrow - Rare AUTOGRAPHED 1988 UK Vertigo injection moulded label promotional-only vinyl 7", which plays the same track on both sides, this was never commercially released as 7" single anywhere in the world; customblack & white picture sleeve. The sleeve has only a few light signs of storage wear whilst the vinyl is superb. This copy has been boldly signed by James Hetfield in black and Jason Newsted in blue by their respective image on the frontof the sleeve. Jason left the band in 2001

Rare first issue original stereo Japanese vinyl LP manufactured by Nippon Grammophon Co. Ltd. in August 1968. Housed inside a unique picture sleeve that was only used for the Japanese release. The artwork is a complete departure from the familiar psychedelic imagery of the western releases. This copy also has the often missing one-sided continuation lyric sheet

 

Wednesday's Top Three Including Ultravox, Billie Joe Armstrong, Velvet Underground.

 ULTRAVOX One Small Day (1984 UK 3-track limited edition 12" vinyl single, featuring the 8:31 Special Remix Extra, 4:38 Version & Easterly, individually numbered picture sleeve. This copy has been clearly Autographed by Chris Cross, Billy Currie, Warren Cann & Midge Ure on the front of the sleeve in ballpoint pen VOXX2)

BILLIE JOE ARMSTRONG Look For Love (This legendary US 1977 7" vinyl single is the earliest recording by the Green Day frontman, pressed by the Fiat label when Billie was just five years old. It is believed that less than fifty copies were pressed. This one comes with the original A4 fold out sheet music which has a picture of Billie on the front. Both the 7" and the sheet music are in immaculate mint condition - See 'More Info' for further details on this, the rarest Green Day item in existence!)

VELVET UNDERGROUND The Velvet Underground & Nico (Rare 1973 Japanese 11-track stereo LP issue of the astonishing 1967 debut, vastly influential and justifiably legendary, housed in the classic Andy Warhol designed pasted sleeve with glossy finish,unpeeled banana, Japanese/lyric insert and obi-strip. There are a couple of small hairline splits in the obi but otherwise the condition is excellent and the vinyl looks barely played MV2060)

Rare pressings from South Africa!

South African records are scarce by nature, seldom seen and hard to come by. All the more tricky to procure are the kind of quite simply amazing finds we picked up recently from a fastidious collector of these unusual pressings who is now moving overseas and their prized possessions need the right new home. 

From obscure collectables like Flibbertigibbet's 'Whistling Jigs To The Moon' (featuring members of cult folk-proggers Mellow Candle) and a never seen before double John Mayall LP to surprise finds like Camel's Mirage and the Yes epic Tales From Topographic Oceans, the offerings from this collection for such rarities is an astonishing haul all in one go. Other highlights include The Strawbs, ELP, Crosby, Stills & Nash, and Bob Dylan plus some stunning examples of Pink Floyd's Meddle and Obscured By Clouds which feature bespoke cover stickers which are highly coveted themselves! For the label nuts out there, selections include gems issued or distributed on Interpak, Aritone and Gallo, snap them up!

Here are some of the full write-ups for these LPs that would not only finally fill in that long missing piece but elevate your collection to new levels!

FLIBBERTIGIBBET Whistling Jigs To The Moon (Mega rare original 1978 South African only 14-track Stanyan label LP pressed by 3rd Ear Music, the groups debut album featuring a contemporary take on traditional music, with Alison & Dave Williams from Mellow Candle. Issued in a picture sleeve with a pinched spine and comes with an illustrated lyric inner. 
Apart from a small nick on the opening edge the sleeve has only a few minor storage marks mostly on the edges the same for the inner, both have no splits. The vinyl is in 'near as new' condition with only a couple of very light hairline marks and some light paper scuffs, the labels have no spindle marks. An outstanding copy of this rare hard to find pressing 3EE7002) 

PINK FLOYD Obscured By Clouds (Rare 1972 South African issue 10-track LP with 'The Gramophone Ltd' label perimeter text and without any EMI logo, the soundtrack to Barbet Schroeder's French film, La Vallee. Matt finish flip back picture sleeve with the rare round orange 'La Vallee' sticker on the front, comes with a company advert paper inner. The sleeve has only a few signs of age with some minor general wear mostly on the edges and has a price sticker on the back, but has no splits of tears. The vinyl shows only light signs of having been played, but there is little lessening in sound quality and only has a couple of light spindle marks on the labels. A stunning copy of this seldom seen pressing and the first we have ever seen SHSPJ4020)

BOB DYLAN Pat Garrett & Billy The Kid (1973 South African 10-track orange CBS label LP, featuring music from the soundtrack to the film including Knockin' On Heaven's Door, picture sleeve printed by Interpak with a sepia image taken from the film on the back. The sleeve has just a few minor signs of age with just some storage wear on the edges and a light sticker mark on the back, but with no splits or rips and no writing. The vinyl shows a few light signs of having been played with only a couple of noticeable surface marks, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. Overall an excellent copy and the first we have seen ASF1775)

DAVID BOWIE David Bowie (Very rare & beautiful 1969 Australian original 9-track stereo vinyl LP, generally regarded as the first Bowie album proper but a commercial flop at the time [despite a stellar line-up & success of the Space Oddity single] hence its scarcity, housed in a single pocket front laminated sleeve depicting the original artwork based on Hungarian-born artist Victor Vasarely's piece 'CTA 25 Neg' [the 1972 re-release had a completely different sleeve] & here with a unique Australian-only design on the reverse. This is a stone MINT archive copy, impossible to repeat in this condition. Both the sleeve & vinyl remain near 'as new' - simply stunning! Investment grade PDS339)

Friday's Top Three including Duran Duran, Eric Clapton & Led Zeppelin

  DURAN DURAN Red Carpet Massacre 2008 US strictly limited edition 12-track double LP set pressed on RED VINYL with picture labels, includes bonus recording 'Cry Baby Cry'. Housed in a gatefold picture sleeve [with individually numbered sticker] with printed inners, 12-page colour booklet and a first-time printing of the LP's lyrics!

  ERIC CLAPTON E.C. Was Here Incredibly rare 1975 US double-sided metal based methyl cellulose lacquer acetate for the live LP release, with custom printed black & white Atlantic studio labels listing artist, tracklist, label address & side details. Unique to Eric collectors is the extended thirteen minute version of 'Rambling On My Mind' [listed on the label as just 'Ramblin'] which segways into a cover of Elmore James' 'The Sky Is Crying' before the band link back to the Robert Johnson cover tune.

  LED ZEPPELIN Led Zeppelin Extremely rare 1969 UK 9-track first issue stereo LP in the legendary original fully laminated sleeve with turquoise lettering. The labels are bright with the 'Superhype' publishing credit. The matrix numbers are 588171 A//1 & 588171 B//1 and are not scratched out, indicating that this is the very, very first pressing.

Mellow Candle - Swaddling Songs

Mega Rare original 1972 UK 12-track LP with brown & white Deram labels and stamped matrix numbers, gatefold picture sleeve with record company poly lined inner. The sleeve on this copy has some minor storage wear mostly on the edges and a small amount of paper loss on the front possibly caused by a removal of a sticker but this remains relatively unobtrusive, the cover otherwise meets a solid VG grade with no seam splits or bowing and a clearlylegible spine. The vinyl is excellent with just a few very light surface scuffs from the poly inner and shows only light signs of having been played with very little lessening in sound quality, only a couple of light spindle marks are evident on the labels. After play testing we can confirm it still sounds outstanding! A very respectable copy of this now highly coveted forty year old rarity!

  BOB DYLAN The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan Rare 1963 US 13-track MONO LP with 'Guaranteed High Fidelity' & 'NONBREAKABLE' text on labels with white Columbia logos [this pre-dated the more common '<-- 360 Sound -->' labels] & pasted picture sleeve still in the original open shrink with ultra rare song hype sticker intact! CL1986

 PINK FLOYD The Dark Side Of The Moon Ultra rare 1973 UK first pressing 10-track LP with SOLID BLUE PRISM Harvest labels with silver lettering, Gramophone Co. perimeter text and has A2/B2 matrices. Housed in the stickered classic prism gatefold picture sleeve with, which differs from later issues in that it has a single right-side pocket opening only and displays a distinct green colour tinge unlike the jet black print of later issues.

  ROLLING STONES Big Hits [High Tide And Green Grass] Rare original 1966 US red London label 12-track MONO LP with a different tracklisting to the UK issue, housed in a thick card pasted gatefold sleeve with integral eight-page colour photo booklet. This rare copy is still housed in the original open shrink with the hard to find circular hype sticker still intact.
