**END OF AN ERA**

Trevor Horn has announced that his iconic Sarm Studios in London's Notting Hill will be closing at the end of the August for three years while the studios are renovated.

Prior to this closure, they have also announced a "Yard Sale" at the studios TOMORROW afternoon. With a £5 entry, the proceeds will be going charity, you have an rare one-off opportunity to buy some of the old building's hardware.

 ATLANTIS Atlantis (Original 1973 UK 7-track LP on the Vertigo 'swirl' label featuring Inga Rumpf, laminated picture sleeve with company swirl inner sleeve. Apart from a few light creases in the laminate on the edges the sleeve is superb showing little signs of age, the vinyl has only a couple of light cosmetic surface marks and is otherwise outstanding. 

CHER Love Hurts Tour '92 (Rare UK original 60" x 40" promotional-only fly poster in shocking pink, highlighting Cher and little black micro-dress to stunning effect! Tour dates and venues for the SECC Glasgow, NEC Birmingham and London Wembley are detailed.

 SAVOY BROWN A Step Further (Rare 1969 UK 6-track mono LP on the unboxed red 'ffrr' Decca label with a studio side plus a live side recorded on 12/05/69 in Edmonton, London, front laminated picture sleeve.

 NAZARETH 1971-1980 Studio Albums (Great set of Twelve UK LPs comprising the studio albums from Nazareth [1971] to Malice In Wonderland [1980] along with Greatest Hits [1975], all on Mountain Records except for Rampant which is on the Mooncrest label, with each part in its respective picture sleeve.  Perfect for the casual Nazareth fan to get the lot in one swoop at an advantageous price, if you were to buy these separately you would be expecting to pay almost £500! METALLICA Backstage Passes (Superb framed set of TWENTY TWO original backstage passes for all tours up to 1994, including passes for the Kill 'Em All, Damaged Justice and '92-'94 tours, plus four guitar picks. Measuring approximately 22½"x 18", the glass in the frame has been AUTOGRAPHED and is dedicated 'To Mr Cool' by Lars, James, Jason and Kirk in gold marker with perspex over the top to protect it. On the back is also mounted the working pass of 'Mr Cool' himself, the roadie for the band! - A superb & unique collectors item!)

BRUCE DICKINSON Signed Torpedo Tube Plaque

Ok the story goes.... Bruce made a surprise visit to the nuclear submarine HMS Victorious [stationed at HM Naval Base Clyde near Helensburgh in Scotland] by way of a special invitation from the vessel'sCaptain, Bruce a self-confessed fan of submarines, spent three days [27th-30th January 2012] experiencing first-hand what it was like to live and work on board.
Whilst touring the vessel he signed autographs for the crew, one of the itemswas this unusual and unique piece. A plaque taken from torpedo tube number 6, Bruce has signed the back with the message 'Farewell cruel world' & 'Armageddin it.' plus dated '27-30 2012' all in black marker pen. This sure is a one-of-a-kind item, one not to missed and sure to be a highlight and talking point in any collection!

JIMI HENDRIX The Cry Of Love (Rare original 1971 UK 10-track stereo LP on the Track label, gatefold picture sleeve. This issue was available for a few short months before being repressed on the more familiar Polydor label & is now very difficult to find in any kind of acceptable condition.

PRETTY THINGS The Pretty Things (Original 1965 UK first pressing 12-track MONO LP on the 'rough' textured black and silver Fontana label, back pasted & front laminated picture sleeve. This was the legendary debut that attempted to outdo The Stones with gritty versions of Bo Diddley songs such as Road Runner recorded way up in the red! See 'more info' for condition details... URIAH HEEP The Magician's Birthday Rare 1972 UK Bronze label 8-track vinyl LP complete with original thin paper lyric inner, matt colour gatefold pasted picture sleeve. This is the earliest pressing with A1/B1 matrix numbers.

Virgin Records to celebrate 40th anniversary with run of Autumn gigs

Virgin Records is celebrating its 40th Anniversary this year with a series of gigs.

Launched by Richard Branson in 1973, the British record label has been home to some of the biggest artists of the past four decades.

The label’s roster boasts names including Mike Oldfield, Sex Pistols, Boy George, Human League, Simple Minds, Soul II Soul, Massive Attack, Neneh Cherry, Spice Girls,The Verve, Chemical Brothers, N.E.R.D, Daft Punk and more recently Swedish House Mafia, Bastille, Laura Marling and Emeli Sandé.

To celebrate the landmark year, a series of live shows will take place from mid-October to mid-November across London venues.

The confirmed line-up so far is as follows:

October 3 - Laura Marling at York Hall, Bethnal Green

October 17 - Chvrches at Shepherds Bush Empire

October 21 - Public Image Limited at Shepherds Bush Empire

October 24 - Jake Bugg at Brixton Academy

R.I.P. George Duke

American jazz musician George Duke, a pioneering keyboardist who was hugely respected by his fans & frequent collaborators, Frank Zappa, Stanley Clarke, Miles Davis & Michael Jackson, has died at the age of 67.

George effortlessly bridged the gap between multiple genres, including jazz, funk and R&B, and released more than 30 solo albums.

He'll be equally fondly remembered by a new generation of hip hop musicians & producers, who have made him one of the most sampled of all jazz artists.

The music of Mr Summer Breezin' lives on!

First ever International Cassette Store Day to take place in September

Here at 991.com we've always loved cassettes. They're a blast from our pasts and were the portable music format of the 80's. We've lost count of the amount of times we had to find a pencil and rewind them by hand and they were THE only way you could rewind and relive Top Of The Pops on a Sunday night! It was how we mixed own music and created our own 'best ofs'.

Anyhow, the inaugural International Cassette Store Day is to take place on September 7, it has been announced!

Modelled on the annual Record Store Day, International Cassette Store Day 2013 is described by its organisers as "a celebration of a physical product that is accessible, fun, cheap and still going strong in the turbulent current musical climate". It will see a number of limited edition albums released on cassette, and modern classic albums re-released on the much-loved format.

Among the labels involved in International Cassette Store Day will be SEXBEAT, Kissability and Suplex Cassettes, with music from Fucked Up, Los Campesinos! and Fair Ohs appearing among the releases. Meanwhile, Transgressive, Bella Union, Domino, 4AD, Wichita Recordings will be reissuing albums on cassette by artists including At The Drive-In,Pulled Apart By Horses, The Flaming Lips and Deerhunter.

In addition to the musical releases there will also be an event taking place at Rough Trade East on the day (September 7) which will include live bands and DJs. Bob Dylan to exhibit new artwork at National Portrait Gallery

Bob Dylan will exhibit 12 new pastel portraits at the National Portrait Gallery later this month.

A new collection of 12 pastel portraits by Bob Dylan will be exhibited at the National Portrait Gallery later this month, it has been announced.

The exhibition, called Bob Dylan: Face Value, represents the latest artwork by the singer, who has been painting since the late Sixties but who only started exhibiting his work six years ago. This is the first time Dylan's work will have been shown in a British museum.

Unusually for the National Portrait Gallery, the portraits are not of characters from British public life, but are a combination of real and fictitious characters, which have been constructed from Dylan's imagination and personal memories.

Sandy Nairne, Director of the National Portrait Gallery, London, said: "Bob Dylan is one of the most influential cultural figures of our time. He has always created a highly visual world either with his words or music, or in paints and pastels.

"I am delighted that we can now share these 12 sketches which were made for display at the National Portrait Gallery."
