Every once in a while here at 991.com we come across bizarre rarities that we have never seen before, and once they are gone are likely to never see again. Sometimes these are mispressed items, one offs, rare recordings, and all things weird and wonderful. Below is one of the latest "oddities" to grace us with its presence.
LED ZEPPELIN Led Zeppelin II - Incredibly rare & quite possibly unique 1969 UK plum & red label 9-track stereo LP. The vinyl on this copy remains VG/VG+ at best with several obvious surface marks although it still plays through without fault. That's not, however, why we are here. The inner gatefold of the sleeve is just as you'd expect, with the full colour Zeppelin panorama that you're used to.
The outside of the gatefold sleeve is a different story. Unnoticed by quality control, this sleeve managed to pass checking at the time with just the brown print, so NO airmen, NO Atlantic logo, NO 'Led Zeppelin', no nothing.
This extraordinary sleeve has managed to survive the years free of writing, apart from the previous owner's initials, or any attempts to draw in the unprinted areas. There is a little light shelfwear, but nothing too extreme, and just a bit of edge scuffing to show for its forty years. An incredible find to have sneaked out & survived as is for this long. A probably unique & amazing completion to any Zeppelin collection!
The chances of seeing this bizarre item again is highly unlikely, so this should not be missed out on by any serious Led Zeppelin collector. To Browse our full Led Zeppelin catalogue head to our collectors store at 991.com and see what other fantastic items we have on offer.
