1975 UK first issue 15-track double LP, one of LZ's most diverse and challenging records, featuring household classics like Kashmir and lesser played gems such as The Wanton Song, great die-cut picture sleeve withthick card inners and card tracklisting insert.

 

SCOTT WALKER Scott 3

1969 UK 13-track stereo vinyl LP, superb front laminated gatefold picture sleeve that must rank as some of the best album art ever. An uneven but engaging album - Still in his mid '20s, Scott was furthering his transition from teen idol to modern artist, with all bar three songs being self penned & the other three being covers of Jacques Brel songs. Although sales were sluggish at the time, it is now regarded by many Walker fans as a favourite, so finding copiesin anything like acceptable condition is now becoming very difficult indeed. The sleeve with only very minor storage wear is in EX+ condition, the vinyl with signs of spindle wear and a handful of very light surface marks is in VG+/EX- condition.

 

ROLLING STONES Sticky Fingers

Rare 1992 Russian 10-track LP including Wild Horses, unique 'Hammer & Sickle belt buckle' picture sleeve with Russian text. The sleeve on this copy shows very little signs of age with the vinyl looking seldom played, an outstanding near mint copy.

Rare 1978 UK limited edition EIGHT LP boxed set comprising the albums Live Peace In Toronto, John Lennon / Plastic Ono Band, Imagine, Sometime In NYC, Walls & Bridges, Mind Games, Rock 'N' Roll & Shaved Fish. Eachdisc is housed in its original 'Factory Sample' stickered picture sleeve with original inners & inserts - all presented in a 13" square silver picture box. The box on this copy has some minor edgewear and a couple of scuff marks on the base,however the contents are all in MINT condition.

 

ZZ TOP Recycler

1990 UK 10-track vinyl LP - the bearded guitarist's [and of course non-bearded drummer Frank Beard!] 10th studio album release, featuring the singles Doubleback, Concrete And Steel and My Head's In Mississippi. Picture sleeve with illustrated inner. The sleeve on this copy is in excellent condition with some minor shelfwear mostly on the spine, whilst the vinyl is in near mint condition.

 

JUICY LUCY Juicy Lucy

1970 UK second issue of the 1969 8-track stereo vinyl LP on the Vertigo 'swirl' label, complete with swirl poly lined inner, matt gatefold picture sleeve. The sleeve shows just light shelfwear with a bit of edge scuffing &the vinyl remains in excellent condition with just a couple of very light cosmetic surface hairlines visible upon close inspection - a nice copy of this hard to find album.

LED ZEPPELIN Led Zeppelin

Extremely rare 1969 UK original 9-track stereo LP in the legendary first sleeve with turquoise lettering. The labels are bright with the 'Superhype' publishing credit. The matrix numbers are 588171 A//1 & 588171 B//1 and are not scratched out, indicating that this is the very, very first pressing. The vinyl plays astonishly well and looks near mint with barely any traces around the spindle hole. The all-important sleeve still holds upwell, with the pinched spine text clearly legible. Otherwise, there is just a little laminate lift at the spine, with some discolouration at the edges & a few light creases, with just light wear, so nothing too severe to detract from its beauty. Overall, an excellent condition copy of this classic.

 

THE WHO Who's Next

Rare 1971 UK 9-track LP, picture sleeve. The sleeve shows just a few minor scuffs & a little rippling, overall remaining in great shape. The vinyl, whilst obviously played, shows just a few light surface hairlines for its forty years. Overall this remains a nice EX-/EX copy of this classic album, available at an attractive price!

Rare 1967 UK Stock Copy 7" vinyl single, much rarer than the demo, a pop-psych classic based on Bach's 'Air On A G String' [a la 'A Whiter Shade Of Pale'], also including the absolutely blimmin' marvellous Freakbeat belter 'Hold On'. The vinyl on this copy remains in VG+/EX- condition with just a few light surface scuffs to show for its forty five years as this copy actually belonged to Gordon Haskell himself & has been nicely Autographed by him on the [incorrect] die cut Parlophone paper sleeve! The vinyl on this copy remains in nice VG+/EX- condition with just a few visible marks, none of which affect play, although there is a little surface noise evident in places & the odd click. The sleeve too is in VG condition with some prominent shelfwear on the unlaminated back & some creasing to the front laminate. What makes this copy veryspecial indeed is that it was Gordon Haskell's own Personal copy & has been signed by him on the front!

Blimey, the stuff that passes for matrimonial music these days. I went to a wedding on Saturday, a lovely do, and while I was expecting Daydream Believer and a selection from Grease, perhaps, the song played immediately after the happy couple’s first dance was this. Which filled the dancefloor and was highly refreshing. There was also The Time Warp from The Rocky Horror Show, which even I succumbed to. My own wedding didn’t have music, but my (deeply romantic) answerphone answered with this on the day. I’d be interested to hear about the unlikely songs you played at your wedding or heard at someone else’s: mail them in to at [email protected]. The best replies will appear here next week.

We’re trying to finish the next issue of the magazine, which will feature a special report on the 200 rarest records now – this time around there are a surprising amount of new entries in the list, drawn from the Rare Record Price Guide 2014. Over the years I have heard a certain amount of harrumphing about these lists, saying that most of these records barely exist or cannot be afforded. But these are the gold standard for our hobby, not the day-to-day items. And I am willing to bet that you own at least one or two of them if you are a serious collector, and many psych and prog fans will own more as these genres are at the heart of such lists. Me, I own three, and I have a label for one more! But I am determined to keep collecting… until I own at least four. Also coming up in the next issue: Bruce Foxton on The Jam and SLF, and Crosby, Stills and Nash, the interview, plus a whole heap more.

OASIS Stop The Clocks - Dartboard

Rare 2006 UK promotional-only full-size dartboard as featured on the 'Stop The Clocks' sleeve artwork. The board has a burgundy coloured outer ring and bullseye, with blue, yellow, cream and grey sub-sections, wire dividers and numerals. It measures 17" diameter x 1½" deep, and weighs approximately 5kg. Very few of these were manufactured and were generally only available as competition prizes. Includes set of 3 tungsten darts complete with black & white 'Oasis' logo flights. This unique and scarce promotional item is in excellent condition with only the lightest of discolouration from storage. Despite the temptation for an inter-office championship with corresponding beer drinking and a double-top finish, this board has never been used. A one-hundred-and-eiiiiiiiiiiiiiighty top score collectable!

 

MILES DAVIS In Person, Friday Night At The Blackhawk

Rare first issue 1961 US 6-track mono LP on the red & black Columbia '6-eye' label, recorded live that year (as Volume 1) with Hank Mobley, Wynton Kelly, Paul Chambers and Jimmy Cobb. The vinyl for this incredible copy has been kept sealed from new in its original perforated tear bag ever since day of purchase. The pasted picture sleeve has been liberated from its shrink wrap but shows very little of its age indeed. Here's your chance to secure a very first vinyl issue that has yet to see daylight.

 

T-REX The Slider

Rare 1972 US 13-track promotional white Reprise label 'steamboat' label LP, gatefold picture sleeve. The sleeve is a bonus as there were generally issued in plain die-cut sleeves, this copy has some minor shelfwear otherwise EX.The vinyl has only a few light cosmetic surface marks which has no effect to play, overall an excellent copy.

This legendary US 1977 vinyl 7" is the earliest recording by the Green Day frontman, pressed by the Fiat label when Billie was just 5 years old! It is believed that less than 50 copies were pressed. This one comes with the original A4 4-page sheet music which has a picture of Billie on the front. Both the 7" and the sheet music are in immaculate mint condition - See 'More Info' for further details on this, the rarest Green Day item in existence!

 

MADONNA Like A Prayer

1989 US promotional 6-track vinyl 12" for the single release taken from the eponymous album, featuring the otherwise unreleased 6:11 Instra Dub Mix and 5:48 Bass Dub Mix along with the 7:50 12" Dance Mix, 6:35 12" Club Version, 4:40 Dub Beats and 5:41 7" Remix/Edit, superb picture sleeve. Both sleeve and vinyl are immaculate.

1969 US 11-track 'Duophonic' LP on the rainbow rim Capitol label, pasted picture sleeve with promo punch hole. This copy remains in excellent condition, still in the original [opened] shrink.

Monday's Top Three! Including A Flipping Rare Beatles Pakistani Multicoloured Vinyl Single, Scarce Harold Mcnair On Vinyl And A Kate Bush First Pressing!

THE BEATLES Can't Buy Me Love

Extremely rare 1964 Pakistani 7" vinyl single with intact four prong centre, pressed on BLUE/GREEN SPLATTER MULTICOLOURED VINYL, also including You Can't Do That, complete with theoriginal EMI die cut paper sleeve, just as it was issued. Only six singles are known to have been released in Pakistan and of those, only two were previously known to have been pressed on coloured vinyl, 'Love Me Do' and 'Strawberry Fields'. Thisis a third single, not previously widely reported as existing. The vinyl on this copy is free of any obvious scratches and visually looks to be at least in excellent condition. Given the rarity of this issue worldwide, we can guarantee that even if you could find another at all, it would certainly not better this copy. A staggering find!

 

HAROLD MCNAIR Harold McNair

Rare 1972 UK 7-track LP including the fabulous live epic, the 12:45 'Spacecraft' & featuring the talents of Spike Heatley, Tony Carr & Bill Le Sage. Also includes the beautiful Indecision and the classic jazz dancer 'The Hipster'! The matt picture sleeve shows a little edge wear but is still excellent, the all-important vinyl however remains MINT. Highly recommended!

 

KATE BUSH The Kick Inside

Original 1978 UK first pressing limited edition 13-track vinyl PICTURE DISC LP featuring two different full colour photographs of Kate, with machine stamped numbers in run-off grooves, housed in a custom stickered picture sleeve.

The iconic singer and songwriter Glen Danzig has sported many hats over the years, finding fame with horror punk legends The Misfits, then with Samhain, and then performing under his own name Danzig with an array of talented musicians. His lyrics are largely derived from everything ranging from B-Movie horror in the early days, to religion, and romance in his later years. Here at 991.com we have recently picked up a number of fantastic collectable items from Danzig's back catalogue, and October is always the perfect time for listening to anything the legend has done. Below is a selection of the items recently picked up:

 

  DANZIG Danzig 4 - Very Rare 1994 US first pressing 12-track vinyl LP, with embossed gatefold picture sleeve, that has been AUTOGRAPHED on the inside of the sleeve in black marker pen by none other than Glenn Danzig himself! A fine body of Danzig's works it is, featuring some of his most dark and brooding moments such as Brand New God, Dominion, and Son Of The Morning Star. Sleeve does show some minor wear, but the autograph is unblemished on the inside, and the vinyl itself is in spectacular NEAR MINT condition. DANZIG Danzig III: How The Gods Kill - Very Rare 1992 UK 10-track vinyl LP, pressed in Germany for the UK market, with glossy gatefold, stickered picture sleeve which fold out to show the impressive H.R Giger artwork in its full glory, and lyrics printed on the inside. Produced by both Glenn Danzig and the legendary Rick Rubin, this is one of Danzig's more polished affairs, with the blues heavy rock sound of anthemic tracks like Dirty Black Summer and Left Hand Black sitting comfortably along side the textured and far more melodic songs like Sistinas and Anything. Both sleeve shows no signs of its 20 years life and has been stored perfectly, and the vinyl its self shows only a fine surface mark from being removed from the inner, otherwise this stunning Danzig rarity is in NEAR MINT condition, and very rarely seen looking as wonderful as this, and this is the first copy we here have ever seen!

  

SAMHAIN Initium - Rare 1989 US Third Pressing 10-track vinyl LP, with picture sleeve. Originally released in 1984, and was the first thing Glenn Danzig would do after his Departure from horror punk icons The Misfits. Samhains style was slightly more in the vein of heavy rock rather than punk, with a darker lyrical content as opposed to the B-Movie style of The Misfits. Classic tracks include Black Dream, Horror Biz, and the single Archangel. There are also guest appearances from Lyle Preslar of DC hardcore band Minor Threat, and Al Pike from Reagan Youth. The sleeve and vinyl show minor signs of their age with minimal creasing to the sleeve, and only a few surface marks on the vinyl to indicate play, on the whole this is an all round excellent condition copy of this hard to find gem from the Danzig legacy

SLENDER LORIS Looking For A Dream

Very rare late 70s UK 4-track 12" EP, privately pressed in a minuscule run on the group's own Bad Boy record label, offering a unique British spin on rock, funk and jazz. Also features 'Bad Magic', 'Are You Ready For Love?' and 'Ghost Train', and stars Andy Morton, Phil Kirwan, Martin Berry, Dave Bristow and Micky Barker. Slender Loris operated between 1975-78, and were reportedly one of Birmimgham's major live bands, touring with Procol Harum, Curved Air and Mike Nesmith. The pasted sleeve shows only light signs of edge wear and the vinyl looks barely played.

Rare 1991 UK issue 11-track LP album pressed in Holland, including the singles 'Mama, I'm Coming Home', 'Time After Time' and 'No More Tears'. Housed in a glossy picture sleeve which has some minor storagemarks but the vinyl is in spectacular NEAR MINT condition!
