The sleeve has only some light edgewear and ringwear; the vinyl appears to bemint and unplayed, with the labels free of spindle marks. A near mint copy of this scarce picture sleeve.

 

MY BLOODY VALENTINE Isn't Anything

Scarce second pressing 1988 UK Creation label 12-track vinyl LP with picture sleeve, which found Kevin Shields oversaturating the blissful elements of his guitar FX more than ever before, and coating the songsin a dreamy haze that wouldset the scene for the whole post-rock/shoegaze era. What's more, the writing was more refined making this a real alternative classic - take a trip with the mighty Shields! The vinyl on this copy does have some inaudible surface marks, but will not affect play of this landmark album! An Essential listen.

Rare 1969 UK 9-track stereo LP based around the story of Don Quixote, as told by Ken Wheeler and the John Dankworth Orchestra, including the outstanding talents of Tony Coe on saxophone and Miles Davis' troopers John McLaughin on guitar and Dave Holland bass. The picture sleeve is fully laminated and in excellent condition. The vinyl looks barely played - an exceptionally nice copy!

 

ROY HARPER The Sophisticated Beggar

1977 UK fourth issue of the rare 1967 13-track stereo debut LP, front laminated picture sleeve. The sleeve shows just a little light shelfwear and the vinyl remains excellent - A nice copy of this hard to find release.

 

IRON MAIDEN World Slavery Tour 84-85

1984 UK 24-page tour programme for the classic tour, packed with lots of photographs of the band taken on the World Piece Tour plus dates, band information and glossy cover with great 'mummified Eddie'picture. This copy comes with a ticket stub for the 15th September 1984 show at the City Hall in Newcastle - a superb item from a now legendary tour!

Having spent most of my teenage evenings on licensed premises, I was intrigued to see BBC4’s programme on pub rock and its influence on Punk Britannia. Since this also seemed to take in the New York Dolls, who certainly never bought me a pint at the (non-rockin’) Prince Of Wales in Lea Bridge Road, Clapton (although the great Jimmy McCulloch memorably did), I must admit I found it hard to work out who begat whom. Eggs Over Easy fathers of punk? Yeh, sure. I saw Ducks Deluxe, Bees Make Honey and Brinsley Schwartz on the same bill and it was only the Ducks that seemed to give a quack. The Kilburns were a laff but a terrible mess. Dr Feelgood were fantastic, as were Eddie & The Hotrods, and while both peaked too briefly, the TV show at least knew they had their part to play. I interviewed Lee Brilleaux long after The Feelgoods meant anything, and he played down his band’s contribution to punk and rock in general. “You don’t want to hear an old man ******* off,” he harrumphed wryly. I do fear that most of the young people who might have been sad enough to be in on the evening the show was screened might have wondered what all the fuss was about: who were all these old men, erm, pleasuring themselves?

The programme on TV Smith, We Who Wait, was much better, perhaps because it only had one subject to focus on. Smith’s band, The Adverts, was one of the most interesting of the era, and the singer came across as almost a heroic figure flying in the face of the mainstream – not that it is ever really wise to consider musicians as heroes when you think what some other unsung people do on a daily basis. Didn’t someone once advise us to worship No More Heroes? Anyway, glad to see the punk progs on telly. I await the documentaries about jazz-funk – the other UK youth cult of the era – with little expectation… Anyone know where I can get an authentic 70s Ford Capri-style ‘honk if you funk’ car sticker?

Grafting away on the next issue of the mag this week; in tribute to the upcoming Euros it’s a kind of a cross-continental issue, with Blur and Vince Eager representing England; Can and Bear Family from Germany; from Ireland, Radiators From Space; and from America, but loved all over Europe, Willy DeVille. We were going to include Franz Ferdinand, but they were left at home for controversial political reasons…

1964 UK deep groove stereo 2-LP set of poetry readings put to Garrick's jazz scores, both parts recorded before a specially invited audience in Decca's Studio One, West Hampstead, including the soloists Joe Harriott and Shake Keane. The laminated flipback sleeves show only light signs of storage wear with age and both vinyl discs look to have been played sparingly.

 

RONDO VENEZIANO Venice In Peril

1983 UK 10-track picture label vinyl LP featuring La Serenissima, glossy picture sleeve. The sleeve shows just minimal edge scuffing & the vinyl is MINT.

 

 

BRYAN ADAMS Waking Up The Neighbours

1991 UK 15-track double LP for the sixth studio release from the Canadian musical icon, featuring the classic Adams track, [Everything I Do] I Do It For You. Housed in a single pocket hype stickered picture sleeve which has only a few light storage marks mostly on the edges, complete with original fold-out lyric insert; the vinyl is in near superb near mint condition with only a few light signs of being played - overall a great copy of this now hard to find pressing.

Saturday's Top Three! Including Raw Blues From Savoy Brown, Epic Rock From Deep Purple And A Rock 'n' Roll Christmas With Elvis Presley!

SAVOY BROWN Looking In

Rare 1970 UK boxed Decca label 9-track stereo LP of mud-thick raw British blues & boogie, housed in a spectacular looking gatefold picture sleeve. Despite some edge scuffing and a little lifting to the print in the top right corner caused by sticker removal, the spine is legible and the inside print unblemished. Although there is some spindle wear to the labels the vinyl itself is nice and clean with very few cosmetic marks visible - a very healthy EX example!

 

DEEP PURPLE In Rock

1970 UK first pressing 7-track LP with 'Gramophone Co' label credit, no EMI logo and A2/B1 matrices, featuring the classic line-up and including Speed King and Child In Time, front laminated gatefold picture sleeve. The sleeve has only slight creasing to the laminate, with the spine clearly legible and the print unblemished. There are only very light signs of spindle wear to the label and the vinyl remains exellent - A superb copy at an advantageous price.

 

ELVIS PRESLEY Elvis Holiday

Rare official US Chrysalis 11-track publishing sampler promotional-only CD-R, includes Santa Bring My Baby Back To Me, Silent Night and Little Town Of Bethlehem, plus Alternate Versions of It Won't Seem Like Christmas Without You andI'll Be Home On Christmas Day. 1967 UK 7" vinyl single featuring another hit from the mouth organ maestro on this early venture into the world of cool cool Rocksteady. Backed with Alton Ellis' tearjerking, soul shaking and downright beautiful I Am Still In Love. The vinyl has few cosmetic marks from age and is graded EX-/VG+, it is complete with the intact 4-prong centre on a stunning label that still retains its lustre and makes your heart skip a beat 'pon sight!

Rare 1966 UK first issue 14-track stereo compilation LP on the green unboxed Decca logo 'ffss' label, front laminated gatefold picture sleeve with integral 8-page colour booklet. The sleeve isin superb condition with just a little light creasing to the laminate on the front with a bit of lifting at the spine, with the vinyl revealing just a few light surface hairlines after forty five years - A nice copy in Excellent condition!

 

PAUL GONSALVES Humming Bird

Scarce 1970 UK red & white Deram label 7-track stereo LP, featuring the American master of the tenor sax performing in a variety of British jazz combos alongside the likes of Stan Tracey, Kenny Wheeler, Benny Goodman,Dave Green, Alan Branscombe, Kenny Napper and David Horler. The front laminated sleeve shows only the lightest discolouring at the edges with a perfectly legible spine and unblemished print. The vinyl looks faultless.

Rare 1988 UK 3-track promo 12" including Lengthy Club Mix & Other Mix, in rare custom promo die cut "newspaper" collage style picture sleeve.

Some essential 80's collectables have arrived!

The 80's will probably be remembered for questionable haircuts, leg warmers, Rubix cubes, and various other pop culture phenomenon. However beneath all of that there was actually some of the best music that has been created, the collection that was picked up last week proves testament to that. Amongst the Items were coloured vinyl, limited editions, and picture discs from iconic artists such as The Cure, Depeche Mode, Tears For Fears, Gary Numan, David Sylvain and many more! below are just a few of the highlights from this wonderful collection!

 

DEPECHE MODE Some Great Reward - Rare 1984 German Mute label limited edition 9-track Direct Metal Mastered grey vinyl LP, with picture sleeve complete with original lyric inner. A very limited pressing, and this copy is still in great shape! a wonderful collectors item!

 

 

THE CURE Close To Me - 1985 UK Fiction label limited edition 7" vinyl single, also including A Man Inside My Mouth with a glossy flipback picture sleeve issued in a superb colour fold-out poster sleeve! One of the most instantly recognisable tracks that The Cure released, and probably one of their best!

 

 

 

JOY DIVISION Love Will Tear Us Apart - Classic 1980 UK 3-track 7" vinyl single, with picture sleeve, also featuring These Days and an alternate [un-credited] version of Love Will Tear Us Apart, with 'Don't Disillusion Me' scratched into the run-out groove on the A-side and 'I've Only Got Record Shops Left' on the reverse. I'm biased because I think this is the best song ever written, but no one can deny its status as an iconic track, and was Ian Curtis's swan song before his tragic suicide. Every record collection should have this somewhere!

 

JESUS & MARY CHAIN The Peel Sessions - Rare 1991 UK white label 12" test pressing vinyl, with wraparound picture sleeve, and hand written label. A great collectors item for any fan of the Scottish shoegaze band, that features two sessions for the late John Peel, with tracks 1-3 coming from February 1985, and tracks 4-6 from November 1986. Includes Inside Me, Happy Place, and the simply beautiful Just Like Honey. Ok so not strictly released in the 80's, but this highly influential noise/shoegaze band certainly rose to prominence in the 80's! Not something that should be missed out on by any fan of this highly influential band!

 

MY BLOODY VALENTINE Soon - Rare 1990 UK Creation label 7" single, with picture sleeve, also includes Glider. Two fantastic tracks from shoegaze legends My Bloody Valentine. Soon was about as close to pop as they ever came, and was actually an indie dancefloor filler in the early 90's, and not to mention the simply beautiful Glider, which is layers of noise with subtle melody! Again not strictly released in the 80's, but it was part of the collection, and a very essential listen!

2012 UK Limited Edition 7" vinyl PICTURE DISC - 'God Save The Queen' was the second single to be lifted from the Sex Pistols' seminal and genre-defining album 'Never Mind The Bollocks'. Exactly 35 years since its release, we celebrate one of the most controversial songs in the history of recorded music with a run of very special 2012 Remastered 7" picture discs. Comes complete with 'Did You No Wrong'. Limited to 3,500 Copies and designed closely with theband themselves, each record is housed in an individually stickered and numbered PVC sleeve.

Probably the last thing you wanna read is blah blah blah, my gig was fabulous at the weekend daahling, but I gotta say to the people of Nottingham… you rock. And skank. And a lot of other dances that they don’t have names for, but which sure look good. Temperature was sky-high at Ska-Lip-Soul last Friday, but was anyone daunted? No way. I am really impressed.

BBC 4 is now into its punk season – ooh a bit controversial really, what with it being the Jubilee – and the Evidently: John Cooper Clarke programme was enjoyable if a little gushy. I remember him standing in his charcoal suit in a field at some Godawful one-day festival in Hertfordshire in the late 70s – in fact it’s the only thing I can remember from the day, a bad sign – and he was blinking in the sunlight looking impossibly thin, alone, and out of place, like a solitary ant dropped from space. I wanted to go and talk to him but you don’t always get a good response from an approach out of the blue, and what would I have said anyway? “I really like your poetry, Mr Clarke,” or should that have been “…Mr Cooper Clarke?” I just couldn’t decide, so I stayed put and tried not to stare like Paddington Bear. It now seems likely that he won’t actually get to be the real Poet Laureate, instead of the punk one, which is a shame. But at least the BBC hasn’t forgotten him.

Got an email the other day asking why I hadn’t interviewed Steve Marriott for the Small Faces cover story. I assumed it was a wind-up, but just in case it wasn’t, I politely replied that this was not actually possible as the cockney answer to Eddie Floyd was no longer able to speak to anyone, sadly. Back came the response: “The magazine started long before he died. You should have interviewed him then and saved it for today.” Hmm.

This week I’ve been enjoying a Cliff Richard picture disc (about which more in issue 404) and a Prodigy medley (ditto) played by the brass band that brought us this version of a Toto classic. Heaven knows what the Grimethorpe Colliery Band would make of it…

Very Rare 1968 UK 7" vinyl single - Thundering vibrations! The magical digits of Mr Mittoo work the soul with this cracking hard-to-find rendition of the Wailing Wailers' Ska vocal. Sir Coxsone's Soul Vendors provide thebacking for this tough Rocksteady rumbler with the equally superb Chinese Chicken on the B-side. The vinyl has only light surface marks to show for its age with this wax being graded Ex. Another rare feature is the intact 4-prong centre on thestunning label which still retains its original 'Daz' white with only minor scuffs and a small sticker mark on the B-side. This is as rare as rocking horse's, hen's and any other animal based sayings combined and a real treat to find it in this condition!

Also included in this wonderful set is a full colour die-cut tour program from the 1990 European tour, and a ticket stub from the concert in Bercy, Paris. HMV confirms £32m sale of Hammersmith Apollo, extends bank facility

HMV has confirmed the price of the sale of Hammersmith Apollo as £32m and said it expects the deal to go through by August this year at the latest.

The buyer, pending approval by HMV shareholders and regulatory bodies, is a new joint company formed by AEG and CTS Eventim.

Subject to completion of the disposal and the satisfaction of customary conditions precedent, the HMV Group has amended its existing £220m Bank Facility with its existing lenders and extended it to 30 September 2014.

In a statement, HMV said its directors "believe the disposal of HAL will allow management to focus more closely on HMV's strategy for its core business, developing HMV's retail offering with a view to maximising value for all stakeholders...

"The disposal and the amended Bank Facility together represent an important step towards strengthening HMV's capital structure. The proceeds from the disposal will be used to reduce the Group's outstanding debt and for general corporate purposes."

Simon Fox, Chief Executive of HMV Group, said:

"The Hammersmith Apollo is an iconic London venue and it has been a privilege to own it over the last three years. However the sale will enable HMV to extend its bank facilities, strengthen its capital structure and ensure a strong future for the Group. AEG has a great track record in running live venues.

"They and their partner buyer CTS EVENTIM, the leading European ticketing services provider, have impressive and exciting plans for the Hammersmith Apollo and we wish them well."
