Jagged Edge

Mick Jagger could be set to hit the big screen in new film TABLOID, currently under development through his own 'Jagged Films' production company. The singer may be in line to take up the role of a 'media mogul' in the new movie, written by 'A History of Violence' screenwriter Josh Olson, inspired by an idea of Jagger's telling the story of a "Rupert Murdoch-like mogul and a young journalist who is brought into the inner circle of his immoral media empire".

The film would credit Jagger with his first starring role in a movie since his appearances in 'The Man From Elysian Fields' in 2001 and as an ex-rocker back in 1970's 'Performance'...

Sadly for Mick though it looks like he just won't be able to quite upstage his Rolling Stones buddy Keith, it's just they don't tend to wear pirate costumes in the Rockefeller Apartments!

The flimsy sleeve is in stark contrast to the brick builtUK version, but has nonetheless survived the passage of time very well indeed. The vinyl is astonishing!

 

WIRE Pink Flag

Original 1977 UK 21-track LP, factory sample stickered to one side of the Harvest label for review prior to commercial release. This was arguably the most original debut to come out of the first wave of British punk; exhibiting severe artschool damage, Wire careens at breakneck speed through 21 songs in 36 minutes to create an album that has influenced bands for nearly 30 years! The sleeve shows minimal wear & the vinyl looks barely played, with lyric inner.

 

MADONNA Who's That Girl

When Pigs Fly

Not just any old pig, but the one from the cover of Pink Floyd’s 1977 album Animals is set to float above Battersea Power Station on September 26, to launch the campaign for the new ‘Why Pink Floyd…?’ re-masters set - a collector’s edition series of all 14 Floyd albums, containing previously unreleased material.

Apparently EMI had planned for the original pig to fly above the London landmark, but the neoprene creature was declared ‘un-airworthy’, so a new PVC replica was made.

Note, we resisted the urge to ham-up this post with puns and similar type hogwash, but there you go.

Official US RIAA Certified TRIPLE PLATINUM Award issued to commemorate American album sales in excess of 1,000,000 copies, awarded directly to a London/Polygram Rep who was influential in the success of the album. This nicely framed and glazed award measures 17" x 33" in size, and features the full sized album cover artwork featuring the 3-D Lenticular moving image at the top, three platinum LP discs below with the authentic, custom engraved traditional pre-millennial RIAA strip dedication plate at the bottom. All mounted on a white background with blue surround and black metal frame. This has been re-glazed from glass to Perspex many years ago and still looks stunning.

THE STRANGLERS No More Heroes

Original 1977 United Artists UK 1st press 11-track vinyl LP. The matrix endings -1U / -1U identify this as the first pressing, manufactured prior to its October 1977 release. The run-out grooves are also etched withthe cryptic messages, 'MADE IN HONG KONG' on Side 1 and 'HAND CARVED FOR YOUR LISTENING PLEASURE' on Side 2. Both the picture sleeve and inner sleeve are UK printed, from heavyweight card-paper stock. Both sleeve & vinyl are in MINT condition!

 

DURAN DURAN Liberty

Original 1990 UK 11-track CD album including the single 'Violence of Summer', complete with booklet picture sleeve plus still sealed. This copy comes with an extra booklet picture sleeve which has been AUTOGRAPHED & dedicated to the US Capitol executive who was influential to the success of this album, signed by Simon Le Bon, Nick Rhodes, John Taylor, Sterling Campbell and Warren Cuccurullo in a gold pen across the front with Simon on the back with agreat dedication - this is the only item we've had with the full 5 member line-up from this period, all signed on the same item. Sterling was only in the band for this album, from late 1989 to early 1991 - very hard to find this full line-up signatures on a single item, must have for any fan.

R.I.P. REM

After 31 years REM announced this week that they have decided to split up. The band who started life in 1980 in Georgia, USA released debut Murmur back in 1983 and began what would become their own distinctive brand of college rock.

 

Moving on to release highly influential alternative rock albums in the late 80's like Document and Green, the band hit their polished pop stride with 1991's Out of Time featuring the hit 'Losing My Religion' and the hugely successful Automatic for the People the following year which brought us the pop institution 'Everybody Hurts' - the band's music continues to be cited by many indie, rock and pop bands as a major influence...

Singer Michael Stipe told the BBC: "We have decided to call it a day as a band,". "To anyone who ever felt touched by our music, our deepest thanks for listening.". "I hope our fans realise this wasn't an easy decision; but all things must end, and we wanted to do it right, to do it our way,".

PINK FLOYD The First XI

Very Rare 1979 UK 11-LP vinyl box set, each housed in their own original picture sleeves, including the rare picture disc issues of 'Dark Side Of The Moon' & the EXCLUSIVE TO THIS SET 'Wish You Were Here', with both albums being factory sealed with 'DSOTM' in stickered shrink and 'WYWH' in the black custom stickered shrink complete with original pair of posters, all housed in a deluxe textured outer slipcase box with custom title design/logo pattern, this copy has a 'Not For Sale' sticker on the reverse cover and is showing very little evidence of storage with MINT condition contents having been beautifully well-kept by its original fastidious owner who was a former director at EMI - a truly fantastic item!

 

FRANK ZAPPA Shut Up 'N Play Yer Guitar

1981 UK CBS graduated orange label 20-track vinyl 3-LP picture box set complete with original matching 'Zappa' picture/track detail inner sleeves. The box itself is showing very few negligible signs of age and is overall in fantastic shape with the vinyl in MINT condition! - A great original copy of this rare set, recommended!

 

RUSH A Show Of Hands

Scarce original 1989 UK 14-track double vinyl LP recorded live during the 'Power Windows' tour in 1986 and the 'Hold Your Fire' tour in '88, including versions of Time Stands Still, The Big Money, Closer To The Heart and Marathon, housed in the hype stickered gatefold picture sleeve. The sleeve on this copy has only very light storage marks with the vinyl in immaculate like new condition!

London Underground bans Lulu

No, not the M&S-“Shout” lady (hardly), but M&R, we’re calling this = Metallica and Lou Reed. A poster for their collaborative album, Lulu, has reportedly been banned on the tube. Deemed to be too much like a piece of graffiti, a la Banksy, or actually maybe Andy Warhol or Jean Michel Basquiat, who would be rolling in their graves at the thought of it. Well it is a bit, you know, horror movie, but we're guessing that was the idea.

The first glimpse of what to expect from the album was revealed earlier this week with a 30 second clip of a song called The View. We're all dead excited to hear the full thing in the office (well I am anyway), especially after a mixed response from both sets of fans.

Comprises a 2-page press release, 20-page synopsis of the event with features the artists involved, reviews and production details, a focus on Marianne Faithfull and The Who, '1968 A Very Good Year' essay and a short biography on Michael Lindsay-Hogg & Anthony Richmond. Also includes an outstanding SEVENTEEN 10" x 8" publicity photos. All housed inside a custom picture folder, still in nice shape with mint condition contents!

 

DAVID BOWIE Special DJ Sampler

Incredibly rare 1999 EMI Japanese promotional-only 17-track CD which was issued to promote the then forthcoming Hours album. This showcase of Bowie's best tracks includes Let's Dance, Starman, Sound & Vision, BoysKeep Swinging & Thursday's Child and was presented to radio stations housed in an unique picture sleeve with discography.

Great set of TWELVE issues of the unofficial fanzine including the very first issue. This set comprises issue No. 1 from 1988 and Nos. 11 through to 21 from 1991 to 1996. The photocopied pages are stapled along the spine and each issue is packed with news, articles, reviews, puzzles, drawings, cartoons and pictures, with the later issues having colour picture covers. A great collection and a fabulous read.
