Deleted 1990 German reissue Swan Song 'wings' label 9-track 'Soundtrack From The Film' double vinyl LP, reproducing the lush 1976 textured and embossed gatefold picture sleeve package with its glorious integral 8-page picture booklet. The barcoded sleeve is showing only minimal creasing to the spine/edges of the cover and overall is in fabulous shape. The vinyl discs of this copy are in pristine condition making this a wonderful near 'as new' edition of this seminal live Zeppelin double!

 

AIRTO Fingers

1973 original UK 7-track LP, easily one of the greatest album's that ever came out on Creed Taylor's classic CTI imprint, offering up an exotic cocktail of jazz-rock, slick fusion, breezy bossa and infectious Brazilian rhythms. Kicks off with the Santana-esque title track, includes gems like 'Romance Of Death' along the way and goes out with a bang with the original version of 'Tombo In 7/4', which has since become a Brazilian anthem. The laminated gatefold sleeve is fully laminated and shows minimal wear; the vinyl looks barely played. Essential.

Scarce 1972 French issue 6-track LP, also starring Larry Young (Organ, Electric Piano), Billy Rich (Bass) & Buddy Miles (Drums). The album came just after McLaughlin left Miles Davis and just before Mahavishnu Orchestra,and was born out of a session that also featured Jimi Hendrix, none of which has been released, but what did get recorded here minus Hendrix is pretty far out regardless! The stickered laminated sleeve shows minimal wear and the vinyl looks barely played.

Original 1971 UK tan Reprise 'steamboat' label 11-track vinyl LP, gatefold picture sleeve + rare insert showing the hand-written style lyrics. Both sleeve and vinyl are in great shape 40 years on! - a fantastic copy!

 

 

MUSE Muse EP

Mega rare original 1998 UK Dangerous 4-track limited edition debut CD EP, including Overdue, Cave, Coma & Escape - recorded at the Sawmills Studio, complete with the original picture sleeve with artwork designed by the band's drummer Dominic. This item is hand number stickered on the front - this is Copy No. 587. Limited to only 999 copies and in superb condition, this CD is now extremely hard to find and is very much sought after.

Rare 1970 UK 11-track stereo LP on Probe, an obscure prog psych gem with a title lifted from the Weill/ Brecht ballet. Plus were led by Tony Newman (Jeff Beck, May Blitz), and the album conjurs up a very Black Mass orMass In F Minor kind of vibe with a sleeve design that seems to want to cash in on the Jesus Christ Superstar craze! The front laminated flipback sleeve is excellent with just a few light storage marks to the front. The vinyl reveals just somelight spindle wear to indicate play, but overall a superb copy.

 

JOHN LENNON John Lennon / Plastic Ono Band

Rare original 1970 UK white Apple label 11-track vinyl LP, complete with its illustrated lyric inner, fully laminated picture sleeve. The sleeve on this copy shows only the lightest signs of laminate creasing with superb condition vinyl for its age! - a fine copy!

Theater and Lightning?

Ex-Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy and 'Thunder and Lightning' era Thin Lizzy guitarist John Sykes have teamed up in a new 'power-trio' with a yet to be confirmed bass player in the ranks...

Currently thrashing out ideas in an LA studio, it looks as though the trio are destined more for the classic-rock camp than the prog side with Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and Deep Purple already having been cited by Portnoy as the style of the first couple of tracks being laid down! Although Pink Floyd have also been mentioned so maybe some progressive leanings are destined to surface?

Whether any 'obvious' signature Portnoy prog-metal-tastic drumming will be on display is as yet unclear but either way the trio is sure to be an exciting prospect for the rock world alike!

Deleted 1998 Japanese-only limited edition PICTURE DISC 4-CD box set - each disc features a cartoon caricature of a different band member. This set features a total of 41-tracks including the complete Mondo Akimbo A-Go-Go EP with a secret track [Truth], plus exclusive 'The Rest Of B-Side' disc featuring previously uncompiled B-sides, housed in a deluxe 6" x 10" numbered embossed leather effect box with 20-page colour illustrated bandhistory and 32-page lyric booklet. The bottom of box has just one a light scuff mark, but is otherwise in superb condition.

 

SATISFACTION Satisfaction

Very hard to find 1970 UK boxed Decca label 7-track stereo LP, a tasty fusion of jazzy, progressive RnB by the British outfit led by Mike Cotton, a veteran of the early sixties British R&B scene, also starring John Beecham (trombone), Derek Griffiths (guitar, vocals), Bernie Higginson (drums, vocals), Lem Lubin (saxophone) & Nick Newell (saxophone). The front laminated sleeve has a small half inch split in the top edge but is otherwise in superb condition - the vinyl is near mint. Recommended!

 

SEX PISTOLS Filthy Lucre Box

1996 Japan-only LIMITED EDITION 33-track double CD album box set - a great box set featuring their seminal debut and only studio album, Never Mind The Bollocks, plus the official release of the 1977 bootleg, Spunk. The second disc not only features the original 12 Spunk tracks, but also other rare early Sex Pistols demos. Also included with this double album is a bonus 2-track 3" Karaoke CD single, featuring Anarchy In The UK and God Save The Queen, as well as a SEALED Sex Pistols T-shirt plus bonus sticker. The complete set is presented in a numbered, inverted pink and yellow 5" x 5" [approx.] box, complete with matching wrap-around obi-strip.

Count Drumula!

A veritable drum fest recently took place when Tool's Danny Carey, The Police, Curved Air, Oysterhead drummer and all things punk-reggae-prog Stewart Copeland and Canada's leading master of the skins Neil Peart of Rush all got together for a jam session alongside Primus' bass maestro Les Claypool at Copeland's studios under the moniker 'CCCP'! 

Film footage of this monumentous musical gathering has been published via Peart's website and fittingly for such a beast to emerge the 'jam-band' have called their new 'monster', Count Drumula...

Who knows what else could be lurking in the shadows with 'CCCP' around?!

PINK FLOYD A Momentary Lapse Of Reason

Very rare original 1987 Japanese 10-track promotional-only advance CD for the full album including Learn To Fly, Dogs Of War, On The Turning Away, One Slip and Sorrow. Custom printed disc housed in a custompromo card wallet title sleeve which has 'October 10th' on the front along with the band name & album title, the back is printed with the tracklisting in Engliosh & Japanese. The sleeve on this copy has some minor storage wear with scuff marks mostly on the edges and some light ringwear, the disc is immaculate - only the 2nd copy we have ever seen in 10 years.

 

GENTLE GIANT Three Friends

1978 Japanese issue of the scarce 1972 6-track LP, including Japanese/lyric insert, picture sleeve and 'Rock Super Collection' series obi-strip. Their third album and first self-produced longplayer, a classic of the prog rock genre!

 

IRON MAIDEN The First Ten Years

Extremely rare 1990 Japanese EMI 64-track 10-CD box set containing the singles that were released between 1980 and 1990. Featuring live and studio recordings including Running Free, Sanctuary, Twilight Zone and Run To The Hills. Also including a 16-page discography booklet - all housed inside a superb 12" x 12" x 2" picture box which is different to the UK release, with the original wraparound obi-strip. This copy is in amazing near MINTcondition with very few signs of age - stunning MINT copy of this very hard to find collectable!

 

MCCOY TYNER QUARTET Enlightenment

1974 Japanese 8-track double vinyl LP recorded live at the 1973 Montreux Jazz Festival on July 7th, with Azar Lawrence on Tenor & Soprano Sax, Joony Booth on Bass & Alphonze Mouzon on Drums. Truly one of the great McCoy Tyner recordings, he seems to get inside the instrument, much as Coltrane did with the sax, drawing from it colours, textures and intensities unprecedented in jazz! Complete with Japanese insert, gatefold picture sleeve & obi-strip.

 

PORCUPINE TREE Anesthetize

2011 Dutch limited edition 4-LP vinyl set - Porcupine Tree concluded 18 months of touring 'Fear Of A Blank Planet' with a short European tour in October 2008. Both shows at the 013 in Tilburg were filmed and highlights were released as the acclaimed 'Anesthetize' film on DVD and Blu-Ray in May 2010. The soundtrack was previously only available on CD in the long sold out deluxe book edition of Anesthetize, and like that edition the vinyl set includesa bonus track 'Prodigal' that is not featured in the film, making a total of 2 hours 15 minutes of music across 8 sides of glorious vinyl! Thanks to Tonefloat these fantastic recordings are now available as part of this lavish 20-track four disc set with each disc in separate picture sleeves, and housed in a deluxe hardback box, complete with 12" x 12" picture booklet *** This release is strictly limited to 3000 copies only!***

Classic cutsinclude an instrumental version of Bunny Wailer's Dreamland, for which the Upsetters had been the backing band; plus Isn't It Wrong, Kuchy Skank, Rumpelsteelkin, Kentucky Skank, Long Sentence and Waap You Waa. Glossy picture sleeves for each record with all contents housed inside a flipback box with sticker picture sleeve cover showing only light edgewear otherwise in superb shape with 'as new' condition contents!

 

THE BEATLES Witney Blanket

Amazing 1964 UK original officially licenced 62" x 78" cream coloured fibre & wool blend vintage blanket, one of only 100 or so manufactured by the Witney Company & featuring red & black printed images of John, Paul, George and Ringo with facsimile signatures. It also has drums at each corner with two guitars and 'THE BEATLES' written in the centre. Unlike many of these that have appeared on the market, this blanket is PRISTINE with nomarks or stains & intact original label, almost as you would have purchased it forty years ago!

I Am Damo Suzuki, Ahoy!

This has to be one of the maddest sounding local gig listings to crop up this year.

Immortalised in song on The Fall's 1985 album This Nation's Saving Grace and worshiped by the alternative crowd for his improvised lyrics, sung in no particular language, with legendary Krautrockers Can, Damo Suzuki is coming to Gillingham! Well it makes perfect sense. But not only is Damo bringing his mystical ramblings to the River Medway, Kent, he will perform them to a select crowd of 100 inside a moored 40 metre steel-hulled lightship vessel, otherwise known as the LV21. Of course. Aided by local music 'sound carriers' UpCDownC, it was never going to be a sit down gig at your local, which is just as well really. So stock up on your nautical phrases, batten down the hatches (or something) and prepare to drink like a fish:

THE SMITHS Meat Is Murder

1985 UK 9-track vinyl LP, non-barcoded picture sleeve with matching illustrated lyric inner. This copy has the bizarre messages in the run off groove area; 'Illness As Art' on side one & 'Doing The Wythenshaw Waltz' onside two, signifying the first pressing. Both sleeve & vinyl are in superb condition.

 

THE BEATLES Dairy Queen Glass

Original 1964 Canadian 5½" tall glass with a thick heavy bottom manufactured for a promotion run by Dairy Queens of Canada, this is the taller of 2 variations of this desirable glass. Printed with black & white images of each band member in a starburst along with their name under each picture and 'The Beatles' white text, the gold trim has faded like on most from use & age but is otherwise in mint condition with no damage to the print and no chips - fantastic example of this rare collectable.

This all-time progressive rock masterpiece is housed in its iconic Roger Dean designed gatefold picture sleeve with the original textured finish [second issues were smooth].

 

 

ROLLING STONES Rolling Stones No.2

Rare 1975 pressing of the 1964 UK MONO 12-track vinyl LP on the red 'boxed' Decca logo label, housed in a front laminated picture sleeve complete with the original poly-lined company inner. Despite a little light foxing to the reverse cover this is a superb MINT copy!

 

FOTHERINGAY Fotheringay

1970 UK first pressing 9-track vinyl LP on the third design pink with white 'i' Island label, featuring Sandy Denny. The gatefold picture sleeve shows only light edge/ringwear and remains in excellent condition with barely played vinyl!

The sleeve shows light signs of shelfwear and despite the vinyl revealing some cosmetic marks/light spindle wear to indicate play it remains an excellent copy! Nice example of an extremely hard to find edition well over 40 years on!

P.J Harvey: Masterpiece of the first rock-and-roll war artist

The last time P.J Harvey won the Mercury Prize, the world changed. The date was September 11, 2001. “It’s hard for me to judge whether the award made a difference to me, because it was the day the Twin Towers were destroyed, and the whole world felt quite different,” says Harvey.

She accepted the award for her sixth album, Songs from the City, Songs from the Sea, by phone, from Washington DC, where she had watched the blaze at the Pentagon from her hotel window. “There was so much going on that seemed of greater importance at that moment than my music.”

This week, the 41-year-old received a fourth Mercury nomination, for her extraordinary album Let England Shake, making her the most nominated artist in the Mercury’s 20-year history, alongside Radiohead.

Roger Taylor To Re-Release His Protest Single 'Dear Mr Murdoch'!

The recent 'Bohemian Hacksody' 'Scandal' have inspired the legendary Queen drummer to re-release his 1994 attack on the News Corp. Media Mogul. The song was first reissued in 1998 during the height of the proposed takeover of Manchester United.

Roger has already posted the song up on YouTube and it will be available to download on iTunes soon. Upcoming Killing Joke documentary due for 2011 release

Killing Joke are to feature in a new documentary film entitled 'The Death and Resurrection Show' scheduled for release this year. Trailers have been recently unleashed previewing the film which covers the past 30+ years of the band's career and will feature new and unseen footage!

The film is set to include both live work and studio sessions and features interviews with Jaz Coleman, Geordie and Youth, plus Jimmy Page, Peter Hook, Dave Grohl and more; discussing their sentiments on the band and just about everything else from religion to UFO's! Production comes from UK indie film-makers Coffee Films, New Zealand's ILC Productions and Jaz Coleman himself, with the multi-talented Shaun Pettigrew in the director's chair!

Songwriter of hits by Rolling Stones and Janis Joplin dies

Jerry Ragovoy, whose songs were made famous by Elvis Presley, the Rolling Stones, Janis Joplin and others, has died at the age of 80.

Grammy-winning songwriter Ragovoy, who was the son of an optometrist and born in Philadelphia in 1930, died last week at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City from complications following a stroke.

Among some of Ragovoy's most famous tunes were Time Is On My Side by the Rolling Stones, Piece of My Heart and Cry Baby by Joplin and Pata, Pata by Miriam Makeba.

Some of his songs, including Time Is On My Side, were written under the pseudonym of Norman Meade, during a time he was saving his own name for the scores he planned to write for Broadway musicals.

His songs were also recorded by B.B. King, Barry White, Louis Jordan, Dusty Springfield and Aretha Franklin - and Ragovoy also was a producer for artists including Diana Ross, Bonnie Raitt and Dionne Warwick. He would sometimes collaborate on songwriting with Bert Berns

This incredibly limited set was only available exclusively from the official website limited to only 1000 copies with this copy remaining still sealed from new - a must have for any Steve Wilson or Purcupine Tree fan!

Superbly presented with 60-page booklet, including alternate album cover art, housed in special outer box in original shrinkwrap. The box exhibits some localised creasing to the front but is still sealed and therefore unplayed!
