'A Dramatic Turn Of Events' is the title of the new much anticipated and discussed studio album by Progressive Metal past-masters Dream Theater, due for release on Roadrunner Records, September 12th 2011 - the album marks the band's first release since the departure of long-serving original drummer Mike Portnoy...

Introducing fans and the rest of the prog-metal world to the new face of the band with new drummer Mike Mangini [at least they don't have to get used to a new name!] the record marks the release of the 12th album by the band in their 26 years strong career since their inception in 1985. The sleeve is showing very few signs of being 35+ years old, with just a little light ringwear/scuffing from storage evident and the vinyl with remains in barely played pristine condition. A great copy of this gem that is still yet to be released on CD!

 

CHARLEY PATTON Screamin' And Hollerin' The Blues

Amazing 2001 UK SEVEN CD high quality box set designed to look like a book set of 78RPM records, containing all of the recordings made between 1929 and 1934 by the Mississippi singer and guitarist for such legendary labels as Vocalion & Paramount. Inside the wonderful 12" x 10½" embossed & textured slipcase box is a bound book. Inside this book, the wonders continue with a facsimile of the pocket book about him by John Fahey, then over one hundred full size pages giving biography & discography information, replicas of the original adverts that featured on the 78 sleeves, then page after page of stickers of the 78RPM labels for the featured tracks. The CDs themselves are mounted on cardboard replicas of old 78s, slipped into replicas of the original paper sleeves and bound into the sumptuous book-like album. Not only Charley but also recordings that influenced him & those by his contemporaries are featured. Indeed, one reviewer described this as the best put together box set that they had ever seen - Fantastic!

Linda McCartney: Life In Photographs

The exhibition, entitled 'Linda McCartney: Life in Photographs' after the book, is a retrospective of McCartney's life and photography and it features snaps of the McCartney family and musicans including Jimi Hendrix, the Rolling Stones and the Beatles.

Selecting the photographs from the family archive was a collaborative experience between Linda's daughters, Mary, a photographer in her own right and, Stella, a fashion designer, as well as her husband Paul.

Linda McCartney was born in New York in 1941. She studied art history at the University of Arizona before settling in New York where she began her career shooting portraits of, among others; Aretha Franklin, Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, Simon & Garfunkel, The Who, The Doors and Neil Young.

Boy George Opens The Isle Of Wight Festival

Boy George launched the Isle Of Wight Festival with a concert in the Big Top last night.

The former lead singer of Culture Club perfomed Everything I Own and Do You Really Want To Hurt Me. Also appearing last night were 1980s act ABC and - on the Garden Stage - The Operators and Paper Romance.

Boy George later tweeted: "Wow, Isle Of Wight festival is the schnizzel! Great audience!!"

A total of 75,000 revellers will be on the Isle of Wight this weekend for the first major music festival of the summer.

The Festival is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year after it revived a Festival that was popular in the late 1960s.

The Mars Volta to play with Soundgarden...

A rather exciting prospect has come to light in the form of the recently reunited grunge-rock legends Soundgarden having the mutual honour of tour support in July 2011 coming from prog maestros The Mars Volta for a few very special select shows...

The promise of an unforgettable meeting of classic original grunge rock and mind-bending modern prog sharing the same stage just had to get a mention! So, although this almighty meeting of minds and music may not be landing on UK shores perhaps it might just produce a live recording? We can but hope on that score but with Soundgarden's superb retrospective Telephantasm [which treats fans to a look back on their classic material plus features a teasing new song supporting rumours of a new record] up for grabs...and The Mars Volta currently working on a mysterious new album [that promises to be 'Future Punk'] on the horizon (not to mention, the last brilliant studio album Octahedron!) it's nothing short of high anticipation for these two fantastic bands and there next future ventures....

Free At Last

The month of June marks the anniversary of Free's penultimate studio album Free At Last, originally released in 1972 which notably saw the band re-form after a split in 1971. Only one more album would prevail in the shape of 1973's Heartbreaker before the band's final break-up and guitarist Paul Kossoff's death 3 years later.

Celebrating the album's release, we have a great selection of versions available including original promos, Japanese mini LP-style replicas and expanded re-issues - all great ways to revisit and enjoy the record whilst remembering one of rock's long lost preeminent blues players.

Martin Rushent and how he shaped 70's and 80's pop

Martin Rushent, who died on June 4 aged 62, was a British record producer whose technological advances shaped the sound of popular music in the 1970s and 1980s.

Rushent worked with a wide range of musical acts, from Dame Shirley Bassey to Joy Division. He made his mark in the late Seventies with the guitar-led punk bands The Stranglers and The Buzzcocks, and rose to prominence as the person responsible for the crystalline computer-driven production showcased on The Human League's synth-pop 1981 album Dare.

Propelled by the hit single Don't You Want Me, the album sold millions of copies worldwide, influencing the way pop was recorded – and in particular how the drum sound was achieved – over the rest of the decade.

Dare was made at Rushent's studio, Genetic Sound, at his home in Streatley, Berkshire. This was equipped with the most up-to-date recording systems, at considerable cost; it was claimed that £35,000 was spent on air-conditioning alone, a luxury in Britain in the early 1980s.

Scarce 1993 US 3-track promotional CD, featuring the Radio Mix by Brian May & Brian Malouf, Rock Radio Edit and Album Mix. This rare CD issue is housed in a custom hexagonal picture box which has a real working compass set in the top of the lid.

Rare original 1971 German Vertigo 'spiral' label 2-track vinyl LP, housed in a full colour gatefold picture sleeve. The fourth album to be issued under the Nirvana name and the first post-Island outing, this heavilyjazz-influenced release was essentially the work of a solo Patrick Campbell-Lyons. The sleeve on this copy shows some light wear to the edges and spine and has split slightly along the top edge, hence the adventageous price. The labels are pristine and free from spindle wearwith German perimeter text, and despite being 35 years old the vinyl is in simply stunning condition - it looks barely played retaining a glorious shine! - superb!!
