1984 Japanese-only & promotional-only 10-track LP, issued to publicise the tour & featuring classics from 1978-1984, unique picture sleeve with biographies & world tour dates on reverse. Despite a little 'foxing' at the top of the sleeve, this is otherwise a near mint copy.

Gil Scott-Heron dies

Musician and poet Gil Scott-Heron has died at the age of 62.

Chicago-born Scott-Heron's music combined elements of jazz, soul and blues, often with a powerful political message in such classics as The Revolution Will Not Be Televised.

His best-known work includes 1971's Pieces Of A Man and 1974's Winter In America, both in collaboration with keyboardist, composer and producer Brian Jackson.

His 1970s work in particular was hugely influential on later musical developments, particularly hip-hop. He has been called the "Godfather of rap" although he was reluctant to accept the label.

Last year saw the release of his 13th album, the critically-acclaimed I'm New Here. His continuing legendary reputation among current artists was demonstrated in the remix of the album by Jamie xx, which was released in February as We're New Here.

Gil Scott-Heron died in New York's St Luke's Hospital.

Jazz FM teams up with Ronnie Scott’s for radio show

Jazz FM is teaming up with legendary club Ronnie Scott’s to host a weekly radio show, starting next Friday.

The show, a weekly one-hour programme from 10pm every Friday night presented by Jumoké Fashola, will feature music from artists who have performed at the club, as well as interviews and archive tracks recorded at the club.

One regular feature will be Classic ’59, celebrating what the station says is jazz’s most legendary year, as well as the year Ronnie Scott’s opened its doors.

The first programme will feature an interview with Dee Dee Bridgewater and Madeleine Bell, while future guests include Kyle Eastwood, Ron Carter, Joe Lovano, Eddie Palmieri, Marlena Shaw and Pharoah Sanders.

Fashola, a jazz vocalist whose radio credits include BBC London’s Late Show, said she was delighted to get the opportunity to present the show.

“It's a dream come true as a broadcaster to get a chance to combine my passion for radio and jazz,” she said. “I have spent some of the best nights of my life at Ronnie's, listening to my jazz heroes. Now I have a bona fide excuse to barge into the dressing rooms and meet them."

Every so often, you come across something that stops you in your tracks. You can't quite believe what you are seeing. A once in a lifetime piece of history that screams 'unique' at you, from the first to the last item in the package, yet you still find it difficult to describe in a way that would do it justice. This is one such item, so bear with me while I try to describe the impossible! On January 19th 1993, a specially re-formed Fleetwood Mac took the stage to perform at the 52nd Presidential Inaugural Gala at The Capital Centre in Landover, Maryland in honour of the incoming US President, Bill Clinton. The song 'Don't Stop', taken from the classic 'Rumours' album, had been Bill Clinton's campaign song. Along with a star studded cast including Michael Jackson, Barbra Streisand, Elton John & multiple other stars of music, stage & screen, Fleetwood Mac took the stage for the first time together with the full 'Rumours' lineup since Halloween 1982, to perform 'Don't Stop' & rejoin the stage for the all-star finalé. What you have here is a unique record of that night, from the collection of VIP guest & Fleetwood Mac's Tour Manager for more than a quarter of a Century, John Courage. Certainly one of the pinnacles of his distinguished twenty five year career with Fleetwood Mac and also one of the pinnacles in a distinguished thirty year career for us!

DIRTY MIND
Dirty Mind, Prince's third studio album, originally released on Warner Bros in 1980 and now re-issued for the first time by Rhino with original content.
Produced, arranged, and composed primarily by Prince, it incorporates musical elements of funk, dance, and rock music. In 2003, the album was ranked number 204 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

CONTROVERSY
Controversy, Prince's fourth album, originally released by Warner Bros in 1981 and now re-issued by Rhino with original content.
For the most part, the album was an expansion of its predecessor, 1980's Dirty Mind. This record was considered to be his most political to date. The album was also an important stepping stone from his early works to the more mature song writing of the mid 1980s.


1999
1999 is the fifth studio album by Prince, originally released by Warner Bros in 1982 and now lovingly re-issued by Rhino with original content.
According to the Rolling Stone Album Guide, "1999 may be Prince's most influential album: Its synth-and-drum machine-heavy arrangements codified the Minneapolis sound that loomed over mid-'80s R&B and pop, not to mention the next two decades' worth of electro, house, and techno."

JOHN WETTON 'Raised In Captivity' [Release Date 04/07/2011]

John Wetton's sixth solo album is shaping up to be a true career landmark for the British singer/songwriter. In January 2011, with a brief break in between touring commitments for the 30th Anniversary of U.K. and a US Asia tour, he headed over to California to write and record with former Yes, World Trade and Yoso producer and multi-instrumentist Billy Sherwood.

After intense studio recording work, Wetton emerged with a strong bunch of new songs which he describes as "'an Anglo-American music document, a true autobiographical journey". Indeed 'Raised in Captivity' is a record that truly sums up several of the musical elements that have shaped Wetton's career. Firstly a lot of his former (and current) musical partners are appearing on this new album: Robert Fripp [King Crimson], Eddie Jobson [UK], Mick Box [Uriah Heep], Steve Hackett [Genesis], Steve Morse [Deep Purple] and of course Geoff Downes of Asia.

Musically, the record intends to offer a more rocking aspect of Wetton's songwriting and performing abilities, akin to his now classic album 'Battlelines', though not forgetting his abilities to perform on majestic harmonies over symphonic musical tapestries – particularly poignant is his duet with Dutch singer Anneke Van Giersbergen on 'Mighty Rivers' the closing song of the album.

John Wetton has been a member of several prominent British bands of the 70s. After two albums with Family he joined King Crimson from 1972 to 1974, before working with Roxy Music and Uriah Heep. In 1977, with former Crimson band mate and drummer Bill Bruford, he co-founded U.K., which also featured guitarist Allan Holdsworth and keyboardist/violinist Eddie Jobson.

After U.K.'s demise, John decided to turn his attentions to a solo career and entered the studio to record 'Caught in the Crossfire,' an album that, in hindsight, shows a logical bridge from the music of U.K. to the eventual music of Asia, showcasing Wetton's love for short and simple melodies over the lengthy strains of progressive rock.

In 1982, John became part of the Supergroup Asia, together with Steve Howe, Carl Palmer and Geoff Downes. This "fab four" of progressive pop would rule radio and record sales, with their debut album becoming the biggest selling album of the year and giving us the worldwide hit 'Heat of the Moment'.
Wetton remained prolific with four more solo studio albums and several collaborative efforts over the years. However it was at a John Wetton fan convention held in 2002 in Allentown, PA that he started working again with Geoff Downes. This collaboration brought first two new songs which appeared on Wetton's 'Rock of Faith' album and they later recorded the successful 'iCon' albums, followed in early 2006 by the anticipated reunion of Asia's original lineup, bringing about two successful new studio albums 'Phoenix' in 2008 and 'Omega' in 2010.

John Wetton's continued success over the decades and his impressive legacy has certainly stood the test of time. 'Raised in Captivity' is just the latest gem in an ongoing list of musical works that will certainly stand tall amongst the amazing musical works he produced during the years.

CHARLEY PATTON Screamin' And Hollerin' The Blues

Amazing 2001 UK SEVEN CD high quality box set designed to look like a book set of 78RPM records, containing all of the recordings made between 1929 and 1934 by the Mississippi singer and guitarist for such legendary labels as Vocalion & Paramount. Inside the 12" x 10½" wonderful embossed textured outer slipcase box is a bound book. Inside this book, the wonders continue with a facsimile of the pocket book about him by John Fahey, then over one hundred full size pages giving biography & discography information, replicas of the original adverts that featured on the 78 sleeves, then page after page of stickers of the 78RPM labels for the featured tracks. The CDs themselves are mounted on cardboard replicas of old 78s, slipped into replicas of the original paper sleeves and bound into the sumptuous book-like album. Not only Charley but also recordings that influenced him & those by his contemporaries are featured. Indeed, one reviewer described this as the best put together box set that they had ever seen - Fantastic!
