Boney M frontman dies

Bobby Farrell, lead singer of 70's disco greats Boney M has died at the age of 61.

Found dead on 30th Dec 2010 in St Petersburg, Russia, in a hotel room. Following a recent performance, as reported by agent John Seine.

The singer, who fronted the otherwise female group who originally came to an end in 1986 furnished clubs and dance floors world-wide throughout the Seventies and beyond with timeless hits like Rivers Of Babylon and Daddy Cool and had been preparing for a 2010 New Year's Eve celebration performance in Italy.

The cause of his death has not yet been confirmed.

Housed in an internal pasted gatefold picture sleeve with Japanese text biography and lyrics inside. The sleeve remains in beautiful condition and both vinyl discs look unplayed! MW8663/4.

 

BLIND FAITH Blind Faith

1984 US limited edition 6-track Mobile Fidelity 'Original Master Recording' half-speed mastered audiophile vinyl LP, the infamous album by the Clapton, Winwood, Baker supergroup, housed in a numbered picture sleeve complete with original fold-out card insert. This copy has been opened but is in perfect condition, from the look of the label this has been barely played! MFSL1-186.

 

DAVID GILMOUR Remember That Night

2007 US 5-track promotional-only CD to promote the 2-DVD set which was recorded live at the Royal Albert Hall, London in May 2006. Rare original At The Cavern LP by Alexis Korner's Blues Incorporated

 
No wonder these are so sought after. Recorded live at the famous spot in Liverpool, At The Cavern captures the Godfather Of British Blues in his heyday, raw and uncut.

The condition of this copy is nothing short of amazing. The sleeve shows next to no shelf wear and the vinyl is equally astonishing, with just a couple of faint cosmetic paper scuffs visible upon very close inspection to prevent a mint grading.

If you ever wanted a copy of this incredibly rare release, this is the one to get. However hard you search, you’re unlikely to find a better example.

TELESCOPE Bye-Byes Ain't Nice

If you collect British punk rock, then here's an interesting one for you... an extremely scarce limited edition 1977 UK 2-track 7" single that, although might be considered 'bandwagon jumping', blows away many independent efforts that year from these shores. The A-side is a fuzzed-up, acid-drenched, punk screamer of a track, with layered guitars, synth squelches, and a pace that doesn't hang around - 3 minutes of bliss! Brought to light on the first Teenage Treats compilation, British punk rock was rarely served up like this. Created by two members of Upp and rumoured to involve Andy Clark, this very rarely comes to the online market with the all important picture insert, as only a handful of copies were ever issued with it. Complete with die-cut Pentagon sleeve, this cult item remains in MINT condition PENT5.

 

SCORPIONS Tokyo Tapes

Original 1978 Japanese 18-track vinyl double LP, recorded live at the Sun Plaza Hall, Tokyo on 24th and 27th April '78, superb gatefold picture sleeve embossed with a silver scorpion, including fold out insert with Japanesetext biography, lyrics and on-stage photographs of the band, plus wide discography obi-strip, the sleeve is showing a trace of ringwear but is otherwise in superb shape whilst the vinyl discs remain MINT! RCA-9147~48.

Incredibly rare original 1964 US 13-track stereo LP featuring Georges Garvarentz's music from the soundtrack of the film, which starred Maurice Chevalier, Eleanor Parker, Jayne Mansfield, Akim Tamiroff & MichaelConners, most impressive 'cheesecake' shot of Jayne Mansfield on the front of the pasted picture sleeve. This copy has tape reinforced edges as, common with sleeves of this type, there is evidence of a split to the bottom seam & some minor general edge scuffing. Apart from that, this sleeve is superb with just a little light shelfwear & would be graded VG+/EX-. The vinyl is marvellous with just a couple of light surface marks to prevent a mint grading & would be graded EX. A superb copy of this rare album to play or frame at an advantageous price! MS3026.

The box is showing only a trace of shelf life evidence and is otheriwse perfectly intact and all the contents are in beautiful MINT condition!.

RUNE ÖFWERMAN TRIO Gavern

Incredibly rare 1957 Swedish-only 10-track mono LP, also starring Sture Nordin on bass and Egil Johansen on drums. The picture sleeve is in good condition; due to its flimsy nature and the fact it's now over half a century old (!), the front laminate has peeled from its edges, yet is still intact and the spine remains clearly legible. What is amazing is that the vinyl remains mint and looks completely unplayed!

PHIL WOODS & HIS EUROPEAN RHYTHM MACHINE Live At Montreux 72

Led Zeppelin drummer's son plays to similar beat

Los Angeles (Reuters) – There's no sugar-coating the death of John Bonham.

The wild Led Zeppelin drummer choked on his own vomit after downing 40 shots of vodka in 1980, a demise that brought one of rock's biggest bands to a premature end.

His son, Jason, started following in his footsteps -- both as a rock drummer and as a drunken rabble-rouser. When he turned 32 years-old a dozen years ago, he felt it was only natural that he should die at the same age as his father.

"I would be the party animal, wanna smash things up or throw a TV out the window because Dad had done it," Bonham recounted in an interview with Reuters.

"Just past that 32 stage, I very much nearly drank myself to death ... I remember thinking it was kinda funny: This is my year."

But with the support of his patient wife of 20 years, Jan, Bonham got back on the straight and narrow. He toured with veteran rock band Foreigner, formed his own band, and went on the road in North America this fall in an authorized multimedia tribute labeled "Jason Bonham's Led Zeppelin Experience."

The tour grossed $2.1 million after playing 38 cities and cracked the top 50 of trade publication Pollstar's annual top tours list. Bonham is expected to launch a second leg in the spring, although details have not been announced.

GONG Angels Egg [Radio Gnome Part 2]

Rare 1978 Japanese 13-track Virgin white title label promotional sample vinyl LP, the 2nd album in the Radio Gnome trilogy from Daevid Allen's [aka Dingo Virgin] stupendously eclectic space rock band, featuring the vast musical talents of Steve Hillage, Pierre Moerlen and Didier Malherbe backing the whimsical vocal theatrics of Allen and Gilli Smyth. Housed in a gatefold picture sleeve complete with Japanese insert and original 'Two Virgin' wide green obi-strip. The sleeve is showing some light foxing/signs of storage but is otherwise in immaculate shape and the vinyl is flawless - A superb copy of one of the best albums to showcase the wonderfully unique sound of Gong!

Creation Records documentary 'Upside Down' screening details announced

See the story of Oasis and Primal Scream's label next year



The Creation Records documentary 'Upside Down' is set to be screened next year.

Featuring interviews with Noel Gallagher, Bobby Gillespie and founder Alan McGee, the film tells the story of how the label that was home to Oasis and Primal Scream among others began, the bands it discovered and its financial dissolution in 1999. See below for screening details.

Speaking to NME, director Danny O’Connor described the film as, "A celebration of Creation, not an appraisal or review, a celebration of swagger and an attitude."

He also spoke of how the screenings won't be conventional viewing sessions. "Basically, it’s going to be like a night out," he said. "Everyone who buys a ticket gets an aftershow pass and we're going to
have DJs and hopefully a few bands playing. Also, at every single one of the parties, someone from the Creation story will be there. They might be from the bands or just a player in the story, like Irvine [Welsh] or Howard [Marks], but someone will be there.

Often considered a pioneer of the Beat Generation, it is only fitting that a man of his stature and talent should be venerated insuch a fashion. This box set contains his studio works, namely Poetry For The Beat Generation, Blues And Haikus and Readings By Jack Kerouac On The Beat Generation, plus a fourth vinyl entitled The Last Word, comprised of studio outakes, Is There A Beat Generation? forum discussion and The Steve Allen Plymouth Show. Each vinyl is presented in it's own picture sleeve, with deletion mark to spine but are collectively presented in a 12"x12" texture hinged box, complete with 38-page booklet R-70939.

BILLY FURY with THE FOUR JAYS The Sound Of Fury

Extremely rare 1960 UK 10-track 10" 'ffrr' mono LP, complete with the original poly lined inner, front laminated scalloped flipback picture sleeve. The sleeve is in remarkable condition with just alittle scuffing at the corners, with the back a nice clean white with no writing. The vinyl too is extraordinary with no marks beyond the odd light surface scuff visible upon very close inspection. Indeed, if it were not for a couple of spindle marks around the centre hole, you would be hard pushed to see that this has been played at all. An amazing copy of this great [and now fifty years old] 10" LP! LF1329.

Abbey Road crossing is listed

The zebra crossing made famous on the cover of The Beatles Abbey Road album has been Grade II listed.

Minister for Tourism and Heritage John Penrose made the decision to protect the piece of road furniture on west London’s Abbey Road after taking advice from English Heritage.

It is the first crossing of its kind to be afforded such protection and the move follows the listing of Abbey Road Studios in February.

This copy has been fully AUTOGRPAHED by all members of the 4-piece line-up signed in black markerpen across the front of the guitar case body by Tom Keifer, Eric Brittingham, Jeff LaBar and Fred Coury! The pack has only a few minor storage marks/edgeweard but is otherwise intact and in superb shape and the CD is MINT CDP-375.

VELVET UNDERGROUND Velvet Underground & Nico

1988 UK limited edition HMV Classic Collection box set including 11-track vinyl LP in picture sleeve [SPELP20], a 12-page illustrated booklet & a 'Classic Collection' insert, all housed in a superb individually numbered embossed 12" picture box. The white box shows some age with some slight discolouration and a sticker mark on the lid, all conents are in near mint condition C881-15.

ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK Deserto Rosso

Incedibly rare 1966 Italian 11-track LP featuring Giovanni Fusco's music from the soundtrack of the Michelangelo Antonioni film starring Monica Vitti & Richard Harris. Highly sought after by collectors worldwide, this stunning soundtrack album is in beautiful condition. The flimsy sleeve shows nothing but the lightest laminate creasing in places & the heavyweight vinyl is incredible with just a couple of cosmetic hairline scuffs visible on very closeinspection to prevent a mint grading. The condition of this copy would be a bit special from anywhere, but for a forty year old Southern European pressing, it really is remarkable. You will be unlikely to ever find a better copy than this!
