U2 in rooftop performance rumour

Reports circulating this morning of a "secret" rooftop performance somewhere in London (it's on the roof of the BBC radio studios) by U2 early this evening.

It is rumoured that the band who release their eagerly awaited new album 'No Line On The Horizon' on Monday, will follow in the footsteps of The Beatles whose legendary rooftop session was interrupted by the Police. Fingers crossed Bono and the boys don't fall foul of the law this evening.

Keeping the faith - Faith No More reunite

Influential alt-metal band Faith No More look like they are set to reform for a European tour in 2009.

Details of the tour are yet to be announced, but Mike Patton’s publicist told Idolator that the band would be reuniting for a set of European dates, which will include some major festivals (bearing in mind the band’s longstanding relationship with Metallica, we wouldn’t bet against an appearance at Sonisphere). 

According to Idolator the tour will be solely a European venture but oddly enough there are currently no plans for US dates.

Def Leppard remasters heading our way

Following the excellent 2006 deluxe reissue of their 1987 classic Hysteria, Def Leppard are apparently preparing two more classics for the old “remastered and expanded” treatment.

As soon as we know any further details we will ofcourse bring it to you first right here on Sleevenotes.

Springsteen to headline Glastonbury

After months of rumours Bruce Springsteen has been confirmed as a headliner at this year’s Glastonbury Festival.

Bruce and the E Street Band will headline the Saturday night of the festival (27 June), the night before they head over to London to play Hard Rock Calling. The two festival dates represent the first ever UK festival dates for Springsteen.

Rumours that Bruce had been lined up for the high profile slot started a few months ago, when Neil Young was also named as a potential headline act.

Festival organiser Michael Eavis: “I’m so pleased that Bruce Springsteen has agreed to come to here for the first time. He’s one of the all-time legends and I’m confident this will be one of our best ever.” 

Adds Emily Eavis: “I’m knocked out that we’ve managed to get Bruce to play. It’s the icing on the cake of this year’s bill.”

In 2008 Glastonbury featured rapper Jay-Z as one of its headliners, but it’s thought that organisers wanted to take the traditionally rock heavy festival back to its roots.

Unreleased Beatles 'Revolution' take 20 hits the web

An unreleased Beatles tune has popped up on the internet, and it's pretty cool.

The nearly 11-minute track is apparently "Take 20" of the White Album's "Revolution 1." It starts off with studio chatter, including a high-pitched John Lennon saying, "Take your knickers off and let's go," before it goes into a  a take on "Revolution 1." Around the five-minute mark the song takes an unexpected turn toward "Revolution 9" territory, using tape loops, voice distortion and samples.

"Take 20" ends with some heady conversation between Lennon and Yoko Ono, something about being naked and how things are "going to be alright."

Ronnie Wood faces being axed from the Rolling Stones because of his drinking.

The 61-year-old rocker - who has been treated for alcoholism several times over the last 30 years - has been warned to curb his partying or risk being banned from a proposed autumn tour of America with bandmates Sir Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Charlie Watts.

In April, an extraordinary auction will provide an unprecedented look into the private world of Michael Jackson. More than 2,000 items, ranging from personal effects and costumes to pieces from Jackson's private art collection as well as fittings and furnishings from his Neverland ranch, will be up for sale at a four-day public auction at the Beverly Hilton hotel in Los Angeles.

While the lots are "priced as if you and I had owned them, not as if they were owned by Michael Jackson", according to Martin J Nowlan, the Irish co-owner of Julien's Auctions, this is "certainly not a fire sale" of Jackson's belongings - there is, he says, much more to the singer's hoardings. But it would seem to have a personal significance, perhaps symbolising the point at which Jackson himself feels finally able to divest himself of much that conspired to tarnish his career in order to begin anew.

Clapton/Winwood Announce US Tour

Former Blind Faith bandmates Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood continue their recent spate of collaborations with a full US tour in June.

After uniting onstage for a series of sold out shows at New York’s Madison Square Garden last year, the duo are set to play a couple of shows together in Japan when they’re both on tour there later this month.

Both Steve Winwood and Eric Clapton Store both play dates in the UK this year, but alas no joint dates.
