Stunning original Italian 'With The Beatles' LP issued in February 1964 on the incredibly rare red Parlophon label in the legendary unique fully laminated flipback picture sleeve. Normally this album is found in poor to fair condition at best, but this copy is far better & whilst not mint, is still in a very respectable VG/VG- condition - A nice copy of this very rare pressing at an advantageous price.

Late 60s UK blue boxed label stereo 14-track LP, front laminated gatefold sleeve with fold-out picture insert. Both the sleeve and vinyl show barely any signs of wear at all - a beautiful example!

I expected a lot of response about our Clash cover story, but we’ve had just as many emails about Alex Harvey, also featured in the current issue. I was lucky enough to see Alex on the Who Put The Boot In Tour at Charlton FC in 1976, and he put on a great show. He had a comedian’s sense of timing. He was strutting up and down the stage dressed as Hitler, to laughter from the crowd. It’s hard to imagine a rocker getting away with that now. But Alex knew the reality of the situation. At the end of the song, he stared out at the stadium and waited for the laughter to die down. At the exact moment when his words would have the greatest effect, he barked: “Don’t be fooled. Hitler was a c***.”

There are not many performers who can control a huge audience like that today – and he wasn’t even the headline act. There is much talk of respect these days. Alex Harvey knew you had to earn it. I believe firmly that John Lydon learnt a lot from him, even though punk’s arrival killed the careers of rockers of so many rockers like him. Listen to Faith Healer today: this is a record that still sounds utterly modern and riveting. Alex Harvey had everything it takes except luck. I am proud to have a story about him in the mag.

Meanwhile we’ve been putting together features for the next issue and planning our 400^th edition for the following month. And I’ve been trawling the record shops of seedy Soho in search of a vinyl thrill; went back to the basement of BM Records in D’arblay Street for a reggae hit and found a few nice tunes; went to Sister Ray in Berwick Street and spotted some unusual stock, and finally settled in Phonica in Poland Street to discover that a US retro rock band is now a dance act – about which, more in our next singles column. All within a hundred yards or so of each other. You can’t beat buying in a real shop – the most satisfying way to get your hands on music. Unless you win it: see our competitions below…

Extremely Rare 1966 Japanese 34-page tour programme for the only gigs in Japan that The Beatles ever did, from the 30th June to the 2nd July at the Nippon Budokan in Tokyo. Measuring 14½" x 11", this programme is packed with photographs, discography, biography information, lyrics and more with all text in Japanese.

 

 

TYRANNOSAURUS REX My People Were Fair And Had Sky In Their Hair...But Now They're Content To Wear Stars On Their Brows

1968 UK 12-track MONO vinyl LP with matrix numbers XCARX43-1G and XCARX44-1G, complete with thick card lyric insert, front laminated pinched spine flipback Garrod & Lofthouse picture sleeve with 'Patents Pending' text. The lyric insert shows the same background dinosaur image as the rare Deborah promo, with an inset picture of John Peel's head! The sleeve remains insuperb condition, the laminate is bright and clean with just a little light creasing, the edges show minimal scuffing, the flipbacks are secure, the spine retains its shape with clearly legible print. The vinyl, whilst obviously played, remains in excellent condition with just the odd light scuff to show for its forty years. A nice EX condition copy at an advantageous price.

 

PINK FLOYD The Dark Side Of The Moon

Scarce 2011 US Collector's Edition 6-DISC [3xCD/2xDVD/1xBlu-Ray] box set. Originally released in 1973, 'The Dark Side of The Moon' became Pink Floyd's first number 1 album in the US, remaining on the chart for 741 weeks between 1973 and 1988. This new Immersion Edition comprises the classic Studio album digitally remastered and presented as a limited edition high quality box set featuring 6 discs of rare and unreleased audio and video material. TYRANNOSAURUS REX Deborah

Legendary rare 1968 UK 'A' label demonstration vinyl 7" for the single release, with release date of 19.4.68 on the intact original four prong centre, also featuring Child Star, custom paper picture sleeve. The sleeve on this copy has split at the seams but remains complete & free of writing. The wear is commensurate with its age & nothing extreme, just evidence that this is the original sleeve & not a modern reproduction. The vinyl remains a superb EX/EX+ with just a couple of light surface scuffs to show for its forty five years. A fantastic copy of this rare Bolan Demo!

 

THE BEATLES Love Me Do

1962 UK first press red label 7" vinyl single, with intact four prong push out centre, also including P.S. I Love You. This copy has the '-1N' matrix suffixes, indicating that it is the version with Ringo on Drums. This copy displays a few light surface scuffs, although no deep scratches and nothing that interferes with play, so is graded VG/VG+, Parlophone company die cut paper sleeve. A great chance to pick up a copy of this rare first pressing at an advantageous price!

Amazing 1982 UK complete set of all FORTY volumes of the Orbis Publishing 'History Of Rock', with each [mostly] double LP volume featuring a collection of classic recordings by the original artists fromElvis, through The Beatles, Rock, Glam, Punk & The Sex Pistols to Elvis Costello. Each volume has a similar style gatefold sleeve with extensive notes inside. The Beatles volume is of particular interest as the second disc contains the Hollywood Bowl recordings from 1964-65. With the exception of Volume Eleven, which has a split to the top seam caused by Vinyl shift over the years, all sleeves & vinyl are EX to MINT. A fantastic set at a fraction of the price that you would pay to purchase them individually!

Rare 1957 UK 4-track 7" vinyl EP with intact triangular centre, also including It Is No Secret, I Believe & Take My Hand Precious Lord, fully laminated flipback picture sleeve with 5/57 date marking on the back.The sleeve is in great condition with just one small nick at the opening & the vinyl is wonderful with just a couple of light cosmetic surface marks to show for its fifty years - a fantastic copy!

It was a tribute to Madonna, conceived by Madonna, staged by Madonna and starring Madonna. Seizing the attention of the estimated 111 million viewers who tuned in to watch America’s most popular sporting event, the 53-year-old superstar used the Super Bowl half time entertainment slot to shamelessly promote her return to the pop front line. She may have been mercilessly hammered by critics for her first foray into film direction with the pretentious W.E. (“Madonna’s skill with the camera seems to extend to her being able to turn it on” according to the one star Telegraph review) but she was on safer all-singing and dancing ground here.

The day we’ve awaited for four long, chilly weeks has arrived: the new RC is in the shops. Really pleased with it too, although (false) modesty prohibits me from saying so, of course. Who punched producer Sandy Pearlman? We find out – and hear from the culprit – in the cover story about The Clash. Written by Kris Needs, the tale is so good that we’d pay to read it. Which we have, now I think about it. It’s built around the making of Give ’Em Enough Rope, and finds the punk icons teetering on the brink of destruction, facing gun charges, fighting to retain complete control over their album, and watching their gigs descend into riots.

We also feature another 70s rock rebel of a different stripe – Sergeant Fury’s stripes in fact – the Sensational Alex Harvey. With the help of those who worked with him, Terry Staunton remembers this unique, entertaining and faintly terrifying individual, the frontman for SAHB, perhaps the greatest British band never to make it to superstar status. Here’s a rare, somewhat fuzzy, clip.

From the 80s, we discover how Depeche Mode cracked America without quite cracking up, thanks to an extract from Simon Spence’s excellent new book, Just Can’t Get Enough.

From the 60s, we roam the lost psychedelic spaces of The Misunderstood, the American band that came to London to show us how it was done – but which crumbled without even making an album, despite the lasting support of the great John Peel.

Plus we have stories on collectable hip-hop, the first section of our look at British Motown albums, and have a quiet word with Fastway, Landmarq, Philip Sayce, Heather Nova, Primal Fear and Portishead offshoot Get The Blessing. And how much is that Dave Clark Five drum kit up for grabs? You’ve heard Dave play: shurely it’s in bits and pieces.

What else has been going on? I’ve been debating whether it’s worth buying a Lost Generation album in terms of whether a VG+ (ie, probably G+ in reality) US copy is worth £30 when I am only likely to play it once every 15 years or so… A French seller, has told me that eBay’s reggae auctions are still plagued with fake bidders under innumerable names, some of which he sent me and none of which remotely look like those of humans… On Saturday morning a man came to read the meter, spotted a copy of Blue Oyster Cult’s Secret Treaties in my front room and went into raptures about it, going on to sing a bit of Harvester Of Eyes, which was a bit worrying to say the least. Thank God the dogs started growling. The album was produced by Sandy Pearlman… isn’t that where we came in?

JAMES TAYLOR Flag / Dad Loves His Work

Set Of Two original brown matte RIAA-Certified GOLD Sales Awards, both awarded in 1981 to the key member of James Taylor's team at Peter Asher Management who was influential in the success of the recording sessions and subsequent tours for James' 1979 and 1981 top-10 charting albums. Both awards have identical layouts and measure 17" x 21" in size, with a gold disc mounted above the artwork miniature and authentic, custom engraved dedication plaque which has the RIAA certification logo. The 'Flag' award is a floater style with the artwork separate from the plaque; otherwise both are identical in design, mounted on a brown matte backing in a golden wooden frame.

 

THIRTY SECONDS TO MARS This Is War - Into The Wild World Tour

2009 US Limited Edition 15" x 24" three coloured screen-printed lithograph print designed by Dan Stiles. Features a rocket space ship design incorporating the band name plus the 'ThisIs War' album title, also has the 'Iloveallaccess.com' logo in the bottom left corner and 'Into The Wild World Tour' text along the bottom - printed with a black background with everything else in red or orange. Hand numbered in the bottom right corner in a silver marker pen, limited to 1900 copies.

Incredibly rare 1960 Italian wide centred 4-track 7" vinyl EP, also including It Feels So Right, Like A Baby & Make Me Know It, front laminated pasted picture sleeve. The sleeve is in remarkable condition with minimal wear, clearly readable spine & just a little foxing on the rear. It is free from any splits or writing, which is something of a miracle. The vinyl too is in equivalent astonishing condition with just a few light surface scuffs to show for its fifty years & would easily be graded excellent. An amazing copy of this rare Southern European EP!

 

MADONNA / WILLIAM ORBIT William Orbit

Rare official 2002 US two-disc publishing CD set to support William Orbit's publishing catalogue. Sporting day-glo green playing surfaces and featuring 43 amazing tracks produced by William Orbit, this stunning and legendary rarity includes TEN Madonna tracks, most notably the exclusive and otherwise unavailable instrumental versions of Drowned World, Amazing, Ray Of Light and Mer Girl. Also included is a double-sided display disc with complete tracklistsings. Housed inside a Lucite perspex spindle casement shell which has some scratches from storage, contents are still in mint condition. This is THE Madonna-related rarity that many wish to covet but very few will ever get to own, still a great copy at an advantageous price!!!

This fantastic poster was never available to purchase commercially & would look incredible as pride of place on your wall.

 

 

OASIS Lord Don't Slow Me Down

Extremely rare official 2007 UK Big Brother label 1 track promotional CD-R acetate for the Digital Download only track, produced to promote the DVD film 'Lord Don't Slow Me Down' which followed the band extensivelythroughout 2005/2006. Housed in an individually numbered custom card wallet picture sleeve with the security seal still unbroken - the disc is custom printed with an image of a rose and is also numbered which matches the one on the sleeve. There is no commercial single release and this promotional disc is the only physical format available - Superb!
