Mega rare 1971 Japanese-only 8-track stereo LP on the Vertigo 'swirl' label, comes in a unique textured gatefold picture sleeve with integral 4-page booklet featuring a colour portrait of the band, Japanese text biography and lyrics, complete with the almost impossible to find Vertigo logo/'Do It Rock' series obi-strip. The sleeve shows only some light foxing on the inside and only light signs of shelfwear. The obi has faded alittle at the top otherwise intact with no rips, tears or creases. The vinyl has only a couple of very light hairline marks but is otherwise in an amazing condition with no spindle marks on the labels. An oustanding copy of this very sought after 40 year old pressing.

Housed in a unique picture sleeve featuring a reproduction of the top 60 chart taken from theweeklymagazine 'Billboard' from 2nd May 1981, highlighting the three Abba songs at Number 1. The sleeve on this copy has only a few storage marks mostly on the edges & corners, the vinyl is in a superb near mint condition with only a few very verylight surface marks - impossibly hard to find.

The previous owner has written their name on the b-side label, otherwise only has a couple of spindle marks. The vinyl remains in EX-/EX with only a few light surface marks which do not affect play. A very acceptable condition copy at an advantageous price!
1972 UK first issue 7-track double vinyl LP, featuring recordings made in Osaka & Tokyo, in August 1972, with 'Gramophone Company' perimeter text and 1U matrices on all sides along with the 'Porky', 'Delta Pork', 'Pecko' & 'Peckie' etchings, laminated gatefold sleeve. The sleeve has only a few shelfwear marks and light signs of age. The vinyl remains a beautiful EX-/EX with just a couple of light surface marks which do not affect play, the labels have a fewspindle marks but still superb. A very respectable copy of this 40 year old album.
1972 UK 8-track Vertigo 'swirl' label LP, the fifth studio album by the English rock band, their first to be produced by the group themselves & first on the Vertigo label after their departure from Pye Records. Features the single Paper Plane and a great cover of the Door's classic Roadhouse Blues, comes in a matt gatefold picture sleeve printed with lyrics on the inside complete with the original 'swirl' inner. The sleeve is near mint showing few signs of its age. The vinyl has been professionally cleaned and reveals only the lightest few marks by the spindle area to indicate play. A superb copy of this sought after original.
1969 US second issue 6-track stereo vinyl LP, housed in alternate back pasted 'B' group picture sleeve which replaced the withdrawn naked girl cover. This issue remarkably remains factory sealed from new and is therefore MINT and unplayed!
Very rare 1969 Brazilian first [& only] issue of the 1968 12-track mono LP with Major/Minor credits to the labels & sleeve. This LP was produced in extremely small numbers, making it actually rarer than the UK version. Originally released on Major Minor in the UK, this superb release went largely unnoticed at the time, but is now held in the same high regard as Tomorrow, Blossom Toes, The Koobas and many other luminaries of the UK Sixties psych scene, with awesome bitingguitar, rich harmonies, sitar, bongos, and above all, inventive songwriting. Apart from a couple of small splits that have appeared in the top & bottom seams as a result of forty years of storage, the fully laminated picture sleeve shows just a few light creases and a little edgewear, with the spine text still remaining clearly visible. The labels display only minor spindlewear and the vinyl itself reveals very little indication of play with surface noise kept to a minimum throughout. Far from the norm with Brazilian releases of this age, which are normally found wrecked with torn sleeves & an abundance of writing, this copy shows no such defects apart from those already mentioned. A superb copy of this seldom seen South American mono issue of a very rare album indeed!

The sleeve displays barelyany discernible wear and the vinyl has only a couple of surface marks which has no effect on play. A very respectable copy.

The big news in Britain is Sir Alex Ferguson announcing his retirement. I am somewhat disappointed that my name has not been mentioned for the briefly vacant role of Manchester United manager. I am no stranger to delivering the hairdryer treatment, having run my own chain of record shop/hairdressers for many years, Hairy Freekz (motto: “Our records are covered in hair. Try HMV next time”). And shouting in a Scottish accent is something one mastered at RADA, darling. No, not the acting academy, it turned me down for having no talent whatsoever; I mean Records And Discs Aberdeen, a market stall I frequented where the proprietor couldn’t hear you because he played Montrose at high volume all day, believing they came from the town in Angus rather than California (bet you were expecting AC/DC). Despite the fact that the Man U hierarchy has ignored my obvious claim to his role, in tribute to the great Sir Alex all the records RC’s staff listen to today will have eight minutes of time added – for no apparent reason. Fergie is said to be a Tony Bennett fan; hopefully he’ll be whiling away Lazy Afternoons now.
It’s that time of year when many of us forget about music and our thoughts turn to the birds and bees. Luckily, I am long past all that, despite medicinal intervention, so I can still spend time thinking about tunes and wondering how it is that I can be in Thaxted, in the wilds of North Essex, and yet still find a copy of a near-to-Mint original Sly Stone album on a bank holiday market stall. Indeed, it’s a puzzle. Anyway, at least one of the acts in this paragraph features in the next issue of Record Collector, which hits the shops in a fortnight. I won’t tell you which one, but the name ends in Head. And who doesn’t like anything that ends in head? I dare you to click: would I try to get you into trouble? This weekend I won’t be in North Essex at all, but I’ll give a quick mention for an event due south that I always enjoy: the Coach & Horses Blues Jam in Leyton, East London, which is celebrating its 10th Anniversary with special guests this Sunday from 3-7pm. This place knows how to party – in a bluesy, growlin’, whiskey-soaked way, and I commend it to you. And don’t forget the Miles Davis Night, also this Sunday in Carmarthenshire, as flagged up here last week. See below.

1968 US issue of the 1966 6-track double LP, pressed on heavyweight vinyl & recorded live at the 1964 Monterey Jazz Festival, gatefold picture sleeve with contemporary news reports printed inside and Mingus' ownnotes on the reverse. This copy also includes a one page reproduction 'open letter' insert from Charles Mingus. The sleeve shows just a little light shelfwear with some creasing to the corners & the vinyl is flawless - Seldom found complete with the 'letter' insert!
ELVIS PRESLEY Baby Let's Play House
Extremely rare 1955 US wide centred 7" vinyl single, also including I'm Left, You're Right, She's Gone [although the label appears to state I'mLeft, You'reRight, She'sGone]. Elvis' Sun singles have reached legendary status and they are seldom found in as sweet condition as this one.
The rarity & legendary collectability of the early Elvis Sun singles is well known and needs no further explanation here.
What you really need to know is how you can be sure it's for real & what sort of condition it is in.
Let's start with the identifying marks:
This 7" was pressed in Memphis by Plastic Products as part of a batch run of probably as little as five hundred. The way to tell this is by evidence of three locating circular pressing lugs that can be seen and felt under the label. All Elvis Sun singles that were pressed in Memphis have these marks, which were impressions from the master stamper alignment lugs.
If a single needed to be pressed in greater quantities when it became a local or national hit, then the pressings were sent away to other plants, normally the big ones in Los Angeles. These copies do not have the three impressions under the label but are still original Sun issues.
So, without the impressions under the label, it might be an original. With the impressions under the label, it IS an original.
The labels themselves remain in lovely condition, even though they were not the best printed labels in the world. All the text is still clear & sharp with very little wear evident. There is no writing or any evidence of historical sticker marks to be seen. The matrices are hand scratched into the run off area.
The vinyl remains in astonishing condition, free from any but the lightest paper scuff and completely free of any scratches.
The final clincher to the certainty of this being an original Sun single and not a counterfeit or seventies re-issue is the presence of the famous 'Sun Hiss' when listening.
